One more reason to choose Pitt over Fordham is Pitt has more majors than Fordham just in case kids decide not to continue premed track.
Pitt might also expose students to more experiences within the sciences, but not necessarily medicine. Students might find research opportunities in areas/fields of science that they never really thought about before.
One can be a chemistry, biology, or sociology major (still premed) with every intention of heading off to medical school immediately after college. That same premed student may become involved in public health studies, or possibly the role of a certain vitamin on a specific disease etc. New interests, new doors opening, etc.
Medical school may still happen, but it may happen a year later than anticipated. Will the research continue beyond graduation at a research facility in another area of the country? Will that research team be published? Will this premed student decide to tutor in underrepresented communities for 6 months following graduation? That arrow may start out straight, but develop twists and turns along the way as students are exposed to new opportunities.
I think Pitt would provide more of those experiences than Fordham (Fordham is a wonderful school too). And of course…there will always be students who head directly to medical school (no gap years).
