I let this come down to the wire and I am pretty much set on a choice but I just wanted to get some last minute feedback. Heres the deal I plan on majoring in business and these are the 3 schools im looking at. I only got merit money from Pitt (full tuition) and would be paying the full boat if I went to either UNC or UVA. My parents said they will pay up to 100K so thats helps a little if I choose one of the latter two. I like the feel and the prestige of both UNC or UVA but the money at pitt might just be too sweet to pass up, however I would probably get a better job coming out of UNC/UVa.

Then what really seperates UNC and UVA? I visited both and they seem very similar as far as campus feel, diversity, social scene. If anyone could shed some light on the differences between these schools it would be much appreciated

I’m not sure about the other schools, but at UVA you have to apply into the commerce school. The competition is tough and there is no guarantee you’ll get in. Is UNC and Pitt the same?

Unc is just like uva is a two year program that you apply to after your sophomore year. I am already in pitt biz program and i have guarenteed admission into their grad program

Wow, the Pitt offer sounds very tempting - you could do a lot to enhance your education with an extra $100k available. I love UVA, and UNC is great also, but not sure they are worth that much more than what Pitt is offering. Plus you’d already be in the program - yeah, that’s hard to beat.

I am actually stuck in the exact same dilemma (same schools, same scholarships, same major) and I was wondering which school you choose and how you like it and if you would keep that choice

I would take the full ride at Pitt and head to UVA for graduate work with the saved money. Look, not to put a damper on things, but in this economy the job market directly out of undergrad is not what it used to be (stay in school as long as you can, and make yourself more marketable with a Masters ;)). I didn’t read your posts fully, but if you aren’t in-state for either UVA or UNC CH, I would especially save that money for a graduate degree.

No, not at all. All three are good public Us. Average SATs of various campuses don’t translate to job salary. You’ll need half of your parents’ $100K for room, board, and fees at Pitt. That means it would take an extra $50K of debt for you to go to UNC or $100K of debt to go to UVA. If you’re interested in incurring that much debt, I’d suggest that you go to Pitt, then buy a house when you go to grad school, rent out the extra rooms and use the rent revenue to make the monthly payments on your mortgage debt. Then you’d actually come out of grad school with assets.

Another vote for Pitt here. Good school, and obviously a great deal. Do well there and your options will likely be indistinguishable from those at the other schools, plus you will have the freedom that comes with being financially unencumbered (a virtue that tends to be very underrated on these boards).
