Placement Examinations - how heavily are they weighed?

Question on the chemistry placement exam. DD said there were 2 sections, part 1 for everyone and part 2 if you wanted to place into Honors. I thought anyone could take the regular chem, so what is the purpose of part 1?

@goingnutsmom If you get a 5 in BC you should get an invitation to start with Honors Calculus without having to take the Calculus Accreditation Exam…if you want to place any higher than Honors Calc then you have to take the exam. The College encourages taking the exam because, who knows, you might place out of calculus altogether and get to start with either a “bridge” class that teaches proofs and then do analysis 3rd quarter or start with honors analysis if you do exceptionally well on the exam (which I hear is really really hard to do). That said, if you don’t want to skip calculus or have your heart set on doing Honors Calc I don’t think there’s any need to take the accreditation exam.
