Placement test says Algebra 2?!?!?!!? Any chance I can appeal to go higher?

So I got my placement testing results back and it said that they're placing me in Algebra 2

I passed pre-calc and am proficient in calculus in high school already, i don't want to take algebra 2

Is there any chance I can appeal for a higher math level? Preferably Calculus or Pre-calc at the least....

I sent them a letter regarding my situation.

Post the placement code. Are you sure you are reading it correctly?

Algebra 2 is such a low course that there is no placement code because I can’t get college credit for it

The Rutgers placement test is an accurate indicator of a student’s math placement and readiness for college-level math. There are differences in the quality of math education at the many different schools from which our students come, and the placement test is our way of being certain that students begin studying math at Rutgers at an appropriate level. It is not unusual for students who have completed algebra, geometry, precalculus, and sometimes even calculus to then place into algebra or computational skills on the Rutgers placement exam; taking the right course at Rutgers allows students to develop a strong foundation in math on which to build their later studies.
If there were extenuating circumstances on the day you took the placement test, the Department of Mathematics offers proficiency exams. Visit [Mathematics Department - Undergraduate Proficiency Examinations](http://www.math.rutgers.edu/undergrad/Advisor/profexams.html) for more information.
I hope this clarifies the situation for you. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me.

There’s the reply I received after I sent them a complaint and asked for a higher level in mathematics

Welcome to how life works sucks doesn’t it? The only thing that is usually suggested is that if placed in Algebra it’s good to take that course over the summer in some community college to get it over with. Unfortunately when it comes to moving up into a higher leveled class it is rather difficult to do so and since it was like that in high school, what makes you think it won’t be like that in college T.T?

So that’s why there really is not way to overturn it. Maybe you could ask them if you can take the placement test again-I’m sure that will work better then appealing to them to place you in a higher level math.

Clearly you are not as proficient as you think. Enjoy learning math. Maybe one day you’ll make it up to Calculus I and you will be proud of yourself.

I disagree…Nothing enjoyable about Calc =*P

Plus it has been my lowest grade throughout 68 credits

You can call the Math Dept and ask if you can test out of the course you have been placed in. This means that you will have to take the final exam of that course offered at Rutgers. This is mainly done during the summer June/July.

u passed Precal and are proficient in cal…there is no way i guess they place u in AlgebraII…I dont think ur good enough to get higher level of math…just suck it up and re-study again…it might help u alot…
