placement testing/orientation

Jas0n,

You are good at this. I am a Student-athlete.

I hope they do the same thing when I apply for housing.

=]. I've read about you before in some thread. You had some admissions difficulties haha.

I'm signed up for the 1st spop. I suggest that we all sign up for the same one!

i think im going to go for the mini SPOP, but the full one should be fun huh?

wow hey man, im going to irvine too. and u can sign up starting from may 18, same as orientation. are any of u guys in the chp???

hey stevie im in chp.

hit me up on aim if ur bored lol

i'm currently majoring in business economics and according to placement tests i have to take math and writing, i believe. i scored 690 on the writing so i should be fine with the AWPE.

however, i no longer want to major in econ and i instead want to switch to either political science or criminology.

what do i need to do about this? can i just not take the math placement exam and switch majors later?

how hard is it to be placed in chemistry 1A? what does it take on the test to be able to skip chemistry 1p? im a bio sci major so i want to be able to stay on track....

im trying to register for the chemistry placement exam for june 2nd and its coming up with server errors when i submit. anyone else having the same thing.

Does anyone know if CSE majors have to take the Chem Placement Test?

what's the point of taking higher lvl classes when it doesn't give any extra gpa points for being honors classes? i dunno if it's the class i'm not interested in..i'd rather take the easier way..

you get a better experience when you take the higher courses. for example the honors series of Organic chemistry allows you to play around with stuff only researchers touch. so when you want to do research during your third or fourth years, you already have a leg up on most people. now people may say that o-chem is killer to begin with, so why would you take the higher series, it is mainly for the vast exposure that you get to better teachers, smaller classroom sizes, more 1 on 1 with actual professors, way better equipment in the lab which is way more sophisticated, and a the ability to meet other professors you may take again for higher level classes. However, you have to earn the right to be in the honors series. It does pay off going into the honors series if you can keep up. you can take the easier route as well, because in the end, it all matters about your GPA, the honors route may be harder, but it is definitely better for some majors and courses than others.

does it really matter wat date u sign up for spop?

stupendousman:

nope, it doesnt matter when you sign up. I would suggest the three day one over the 1 day one, since it is better experience over the one day, and the one day is really rushed.

ok...i'm gonna be in Biological Sciences major - so the site said that i have to take the analytical writing exam, pre-calculus, and chem. I already took the analytical writing test during may, and am currently taking Calculus AB in high school. So, do I only need to register for the chemistry placement exam? If so, how should I study for it because I took chem about 2 yrs ago & dont remember many things?

Aren't you gonna take a foreign language one, Gilly4eva?

I'm in the same situation as gilly4eva, but i'm not taking the for. lang. one because i took 3 years of spanish in h.s. so I don't have to take a for. lang. at irvine.

As for what test to take, I'm taking both pre-calc and chem even though I took calc bc and I'm mostly sure I passed at least the ab subscore. Depending on when your orientation (after ap scores come out) you may want to take pre-calc.

I need your opinion you guys:

I registered for the 7/6/07 placement tests (Chem and Pre-Calc) and will be doing MINI SPOPB on 7/7/07.
I'm going to call College Board when I can get my grade by phone to see what I got on my AP tests (English, Calc BC, Physics, Chem and Spanish). Using these scores by phone, I'll just cancel my placement tests in Calc/Chem assuming I pass with 4's or better. Sound like a bad idea? I only plan to call because I'm not sure if by 7/7/07 I will have my AP scores or not in my hand.

i dont think we even need our ap scores by orientation?

am i wrong jason?

Can anyone tell me what I should do?
