<p>What placement tests are required for incoming freshman? I know there's definately math and chem exams, but which are required and for whom?</p>

<p>I think both LSA and CoE have to take Chem and Math placement exams. CoE does not have to take a language placement exam, I am not sure if it is required for LSA. I think LSA also has a writing placement exam, CoE does not. </p>
<p>If you’re in Art, Theatre, Nursing, or anything else then I don’t know.</p>
<p>The Chem and Math placement exams are very easy if you took chemistry and algebra/precalc in high school, which should be almost everyone at U of M. I thought the Latin placement exam was hard but I don’t think I had enough experience in Latin to deserve any credits for it. Those are the only ones I took personally.</p>
<p>From what I’ve heard it’s common for people who took Spanish for 4 years in high school to get at least 8 credits for Spanish from the placement exam.</p>
<p>So they only test us on high school chemistry? So I won’t need to know how to do some of the concepts found in AP chem like titrations and balancing redox reactions?</p>
<p>I don’t remember exactly what’s on it (it was 2 years ago for me) but I remember it being very easy. Regardless, the results from it are non-binding, so don’t stress over it.</p>

<p>chem placement is optional but you take it at orientation if you want
foreign lang placements are optional (I believe mandatory if you’re taking the same foreign lang class) and also taken at orientation
your math and eng exams are mandatory and are taken before orientation online.</p>
<p>Chem is easy and the results don’t matter. Even if you test into Orgo you’ll probably still take Gen Chem</p>

<p>I’m pretty sure that everyone has to take the Chem test (or at least all of LSA and CoE) despite BC2015’s comment. At the very least I will confirm that all LSA and CoE students had to take the Chem placement test 2 years ago.</p>
<p>If you have no intention of taking a foreign language then you must be in CoE or a Ross pre-admit or planning on a BGS? (Or one of the specialized schools maybe) If so then I think you don’t have to take a language exam, but you might as well.</p>

<p>Perhaps you are not attending LSA? – If you are in LSA, you most certainly WILL have to take a language, or you will not be able to graduate.
If you are in the School of Music (BFA or BMus) or Engineering, I believe you do not have to meet the 4th level language proficiency.</p>
<p>So bank on at least the language placement test at orientation, unless you’re in music or COE.</p>
<p>You do not need a language in LSA if you go the BGS (Bachelor of General Studies) route.</p>
