i heard that there will be placement tests during the orientation. how will the scores be evaluated? will it affect the courses you want to take? thanks

I heard that they'll recommend us courses to take.. we don't necessarily have to follow these suggestions, but I'm sure yuo wouldn't want to jump to Calc III if you haven't passed Calc I yet.

I think these placement tests are to evaluate whether you are fit for "honors" or "regular" classes. I know it is the case for chem, but I'm not sure if it applies for bio, math, etc.

wait. there are honors courses !?

Does anyone know what format the statistics placement test for Stern is, is it multiple choice?

you have to get a 4/5 on the AP bio exam to be allowed to take the placement test which if you do well on, you can be placed into honors bio. same goes for chem (except i think anyone can take the chem placement exam- you dont need to have a 4/5 on the AP).

there are placement exams for languages and math but im pretty sure there are no honors for those classes.

They have honors chem and honors bio, and you can take those exams if you so chose. There is also a foreign language placement test, which is similar to SAT subject tests. Depending on the score you get, you can get exempt from some or all of the foreign language requirement (4 semesters are required- beginning I and II, intermediate I and II). There is a math exam that can get you placed out of taking the one required semester of math, but you can also get exempt out of math with appropriate ap scores.

I have a few specific questions:

1) Which categories offer placement exams?
2) Do we get to chose our placement exams?
4) Is there a way we can get out of certain placement exams? Such as through AP scores or SAT II scores?

i have a question too.
when do we take these placement exams? Are we going to be notified prior to taking them, so that at least, we have some preparation?

oh and another one...
does 1,2,3 in AP work for calc? I mean, if i get one of those grades in my calc BC AP, will i be able to take a placement test for calculus? or can i go for calc I honors at least?
