I'm new this semester. My friends are coming to Gville to visit me and I wanted to take them to a great place to eat (exclusive to gainesville area). What are your best spots to eat? (holes-in-the wall...)

Thanks :)

the swamp restaurant would be the most generic answer.

If you are looking for a place outside the campus where locals eat then here are some of the places I have liked:
(all are outside of the campus, but not too far)

[url=http://www.hookedonharrys.com/page/28-4172.htm]Welcome to Harry’s Seafood, Bar, and Grille/url
[url=http://www.emilianoscafe.com/]Emiliano’s Cafe/url
[url=http://www2.codysoriginalroadhouse.com/index.cfm]Cody’s Roadhouse/url

On a couple visits over the past year, Cody’s RoadHouse has worked out
fine. On both occasions we stopped for a late lunch after business on campus.
Cody’s is about what you would expect in a college town. I’d stop again.

The Swamp is the close to campus, over-priced, Gator place to go for out of towners.

I would recommend The Top—downtown Gainesville—great mix of age groups–kitschy, eclectic interior (think 50’s lamps and crazy decor)–as well as a really interesting menu from the basics(burgers) to the gourmet. It is always busy, even during the week.
I am bringing my sister from Maryland to G-ville on Weds. nite and we are going to go there with my two UF students…always fun and a good time…Probably a 20 minute wait during the week…will thoroughly enjoy the wait in the bar, looking at all the funny lamps and light up signs.

If you like Italian, stop by Fresco at 3117 SW 34th Street. Small restaurant, but very nice and they also have outdoor tables.
