My mom and I will be staying in the area Sunday night to attend the Open House on Monday. Any suggestions for nearby food that is tasty and cheap?

well, there are plenty of local diners, but a lot of the ones that students will hail are naturally fast-food type of joints. Like Antonio's, Bueno y Sano. Fresh Side is pretty good also, although it's nothing like a "special" treat. There is a wealth of information in the Daily Jolt, and check under "Food Guide".

As long as you're in the area on Sunday night, I strongly encourage you to go see the Zumbyes as well. 8 o'clock in the johnson chapel. Their performances are pretty damn hilarious and it will be a nice treat; and it will be one of the things that Amherst students can do.

self-promotion Dean? In all seriousness, I agree that the Zumbyes' concert will be worth seeing, they are a lot of fun. The daily jolt does have menus and reviews of restaurants. If you're looking for a sit-down place, Judie's or the Lord Jeff are good options. But it's true those are more for special occasions (expensive for student budgets). The places Dean suggested are more frequented by students, because they are cheaper, and are good options.

go to FATSO's

There's a small Nigerian restaurant in town that is fantastic. I think it's called Baku's.

Yeah it's called Baku's. Get the mango gingerbrew.

Go to the Lone Wolf for a delicious brunch if you get the chance (Don't go to the Lord Jeff Inn, it's way overpriced and not as good as the Lone Wolf)

Black Sheep Deli - fantastic little deli, good sandwiches, salads, pasta, coffee, excellent pastries

Bueno y Sano - delicious "quirky" Mexican food. You can get portabellos, seitan, spinach and sauteed garlic, roasted red peppers...

Veracruzana - more traditional Mexican food. Great guac/salsa bar

Crazy Noodles is lovely, even though the sign outside makes it look like a bad chain. There's good Indian, Thai, Vietnamese...Pasta e Basta for traditional fresh pasta

Antonio's Pizza is legendary
