I'm going into Hopkins next year and I want to take the IR/Econ route. My spanish is decent and I'm going to be studying abroad for a little bit this summer to work on it.

I think I would be able to place out of a few first level spanish classes but I'm not going to have the (lovely) chance of taking the AP Spanish exam. So what should I do? Do I have to take the SATs II? Does JHU have a in-house test they administer to see where to place you? What's the benefites of placing out of a couple language classes?
Thanks!

If you want to get a waiver for the lower level classes, you'll need to take the exam in person at the JHU Language Lab during Orientation. There are Spanish and French placement tests online, but those are only for placeing into advanced level classes. In your case, if you are planning on taking advanced Spanish courses in the fall, you should take the placement test over the summer and register for the class it recommends and then go and retake the test in the Language Lab during Orientation.
