Plan II and BME

I will be a freshman at UT this fall and I was accepted into both Plan II and BME (biomedical engineering). I was considering duel majoring in these and was wondering if anybody had any advice or comments about this. I know that it generally take five years to complete, but any other advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I would suggest calling the BME department and seeing if they can put you in touch with someone who has done that. I will send you a private message with more info.

I know two people who are doing this. Got any specific questions?

If you have a lot of AP credit, it shouldn’t be that hard to do in 4 years btw. I suggest looking up the degree plans to get an idea of where you’re at. You can plan out your courses that way.

One problem that might arise, however, is that the BME schedules aren’t too flexible, since BME is a fairly small program at UT. You might be forced to choose between taking one of the only Plan II classes open or only one available timeslot for a BME class.

edit: something else i’ve heard is that the senior design takes up so much time that it might be hard to do your thesis.

I know three people who are doing this - one dropped out of BME very quickly, the other dropped out of Plan II very quickly. The other is still in both programs. I’m not very clear on what the situation was, but it IS a very busy combination - not necessarily in freshman year, but it can get quite busy later on, especially during junior year. Yeah, thesis would take time too. It’s definitely workable, but work hard!
