So, erm, I got into both Plan II and BHP, and UT's looking mighty appealing at the moment. I was just wondering about the two programs--would it be wise to double major with them? A student at UT Austin had mentioned how its impractical to have a Plan II and BHP double major because there's no "hardcore" business major backing it up (ie: finance, etc.)

I have a few friends who did this. Most of them spent far more time on their Plan II work than on their BHP work.

Like you said, both programs are general majors, and not geared towards anything specific, so that could hurt you somewhat. On the other hand, doing both proves you are smart, which could prove to be handy.

@tspade, I would have to counter what your friend said about BHP/Plan II not having substance. I’m a senior BHP, Plan II, Finance (accounting minor) student and also a BHP recruiter here at UT.

Most students who get into BHP and Plan II will and can do another major as well, either something within business (finance, accounting, management, etc.) or do a major in the college of liberal arts (history, economics, psychology, etc.) depending on the individual students’ interest. I have a friend who graduated with BHP, Plan II, Management, and Psychology and is now pursuing her Ph.D.

Personally, I’ve enjoyed doing both Plan II and BHP. The two degrees help counter each other when I get sick of finance or vice versa with philosophy, etc. Plan II helps keep your mind fresh by learning new subjects, and it’s a great talking point when talking with recruiters.

I’m not sure if I’m going to UT yet, but it’s a relief to know that students within both programs commonly pursue another degree! That’s what my concern was, really. xD

And I have tons of friends who haven’t heard back from Plan II–the letter said that they’re sending out notifications in March, I believe. :D
