I have a question, my daughter is thinking about picking up another community college class spring semester to max out her English credit points for her Cal Poly application. My concern is if she put a literature or humanities class on her app as a planned class for spring, but then can’t get the class? Our community college is crowded, she’s taken 6 classes there as a dual enrolled high school student, but sometimes she can’t get the class she wants, has to try and crash, pick something else, etc… what happens then?
Is she a Senior applying this year?
Yes, we’re working on her app now
Decisions will be out before the end of Spring semester, so it will not give her the bonus point boost she is looking for by taking the class. If she wanted the bonus points, taking the class during the Fall would be to her benefit or possibly on-line?
Aren’t they adding points based on in progress and planned classes too though? She’s in her 4th year of advanced math now, as well as AP Art History, AP Environmental Science, AP Lit, etc… those all count into her a-g totals, no?
Yes, they are adding points for planned progress and I am just wondering what happens if you are accepted based on the planned class(es) bonus points and are not able to get the class or complete the class. Will the application go back for review if there is a schedule change?
That’s my concern. Obviously she has all of her a-g done, this would be extra like many of the other classes she’s taken at the college. She wouldn’t be deficient in any a-g area without the class, but what happens if she lists it as planned to get the credit for additional English classes and then can’t get the class? Last year she planned to take us history at the college and couldn’t get in, though she has gotten into 6 other classes over the last year. There’s just no guarantee.
