Planning a schedule for writing college apps

Hello all, im a rising senior and that means application time! Today is my first day of summer and im unsure of how i should pace myself with my essays over the summer.

I already have 2 essay drafts for the common app completed because they were assignments for my english class, but im thinking that itd be a good idea to write 1 or 2 drafts for each prompt and continue to edit the ones that flow well and delete the ones that just dont work? Thats a lot of work but i dont want to focus on a single prompt when i could use a better story for a different prompt. Is this a good idea?

My plan is to have my common app essays done by august 1st, so then ill be able to start writing the essays from my specific colleges once they release their official prompts on august first.

Although, i dont know how to pace myself. I have AP Lit and AP euro summer homework, (both include reading books and writing analysis essays) as well as 2 college classes. How should i manage my time for essays around all the other stuff i have to do? My goal is to get all summer work and common app essays done by august 1st so i can have all of august to really crack down on my specific essays. Should i try and write 1 draft every 2 weeks? 1 draft a week? How do i prevent procrastination?

I dont want to be that person who procrastinates on all their essays and doesnt start them until september!

I wouldn’t delete the ones you don’t want (they may come in handy later – for scholarship essays, schools you decide to add later, etc).

It is like any other workplan. Divide the work up into increments, schedule them, and execute them. Be sure to not plan work when you have a family vacation or other large time commitment. You could create an Excel spreadsheet to track everything.

One draft a week sounds good to me for summer essay writing. Unless your schools are rolling admissions, your APs aren’t due until later in the fall. But a productive summer is a good idea.

You could set aside a specific time, like Sunday afternoons for essays.

Do you need more than one non-college specific essay?
