DD is a hs junior. 3.9 gpa… No test scores yet but practice ACT was 29. We are from Wisconsin and she wants somewhere it does not snow lol. We are planning on Univ of Kentucky, Belmont, Univ of Tenn, Vanderbilt, Univ of Alabama. Her sister goes to UMN and the size there does not scare her so I would think med to large school. More of an urban girl. No idea of her major.
Where else should we go? I’m not super familiar with schools in that area
Tulane
College of Charleston
Emory
UNC
Tulane, College of Charleston, Clemson, Elon ( not sure if urban is a must)
Maybe Wake Forest in NC and Rollins College in FL
She’ll need to get above 30 to be competitive at several of the schools mentioned. “In that area” seems to be open to interpretation (Texas?)
Well, @Oregon2016 Since schools from FL, SC, NC, LA have been thrown out why not TX?
When we did a midwest road trip we covered the ENTIRE midwest while we happened to be out there.
since you’re open to publics - add Auburn/Clemson/South Carolina
might consider Furman and Elon. If she wants to go more central area she should look at SMU/TCU/OU
ACT score will have to come up for some of those I mentioned. Need to be 30 and above to be somewhat safe.
Tulane, Ole Miss, and Rhodes. Personally, I love Texas schools (a person could do a road trip just through Texas schools), but they may be a bit too far west if you’re also heading to KY and NC.
D also wants to avoid snow, so she has Tulane, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, and Texas on her list (among others). She has a friend at Rhodes and thought it a bit small.
Texas is not out of the running but we only have a week for this trip (her spring break). She does prefer more urban vs rural. Cost will be a factor but she will qualify for need based aid. Keep throwing idea at me. She is looking up each one to see if she thinks it should be on the list :). Some of these schools I have never heard of so this is a big help!!
For FL, my mom lives there so that will be a separate trip next Fall.
is he likes urban then she would love TCU/SMU
I’d visit UW-Madison first as a standard of comparison before you take your trip. Look at schools with either good merit or full need. That excludes most of the large publics for need, but Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, have excellent merit. Also look at other privates like Duke, Vanderbilt and Emory with large endowments.
She should shoot for an ACT or 33 or more for merit, or to be admitted to the more exclusive private schools.
Her sister goes to UMN so she has a basis for comparison. Thank for all the ideas! Our trip is in April so she has lots of time to research
