Planning to apply for the IS Major

Hello! I am planning to apply for the Information Systems major.

  1. Do you know anyone who has taken it and their general feelings of it? I was originally planning to go more "Communications" for my major but my parents don't think it is a safe decision.
  2. I am currently a high school senior, and it says that Carnegie Mellon requires 2 Subject tests. I am in AB calc this year, but would it really matter whether I took Math 1 or Math 2? I'm probably also going to take APUSH but it isn't going to be easy. The test is October 3rd, and I don't have much time to study.

Thank you!

  1. The vast majority of people end up as Engineers/Devs/Analysts. Occasional few go to Wall St, grad school, or something else. You may find this helpful. http://www.cmu.edu/career/salaries-and-destinations/2015-survey/pdfs-one-pagers/2015%20IS%20Post-Grad%20One%20Pager2.pdf Regarding whether or not it is a safe choice, the average IS salary went up 5 digits compared to the class of 2014. Salary has been increasing each year since the program was founded. So yes, it's a safe choice.
  2. I got in ED, with 800 Math 2 and 720 Lit. Got a 4 in APUSH, 5 in Bio, 5 in Lang, 5 in BC Calc. 720/800/730 Math/Writing/Reading for the general SAT. I chose to do IS because I hate math, and with a 5 on BC, I only have to take stats during all 4 years. IS is one of the easiest majors in terms of technical difficulty; the only "hard" class is 15-112 which is programming in python.
