Playing a Sport in High School

I am going to be a senior in high school. I have been playing a sport for the last three years of high school on the JV team. This year, as a senior, I am going to be on the Varsity team. Since my sport is played in the fall, I think I may be too busy with college apps, SAT subject tests, and my school courses. Would it look better on college apps to play all four years, or is it okay to play for just three?

How selective a suite of colleges are you aiming for? Tippy top ones? For those, people tend to act like it’s an arms race – and bulk up as much as possible. For 95% of other humans, the EC list is just good stuff – but not a deal breaker whatsoever. What schools are you applying to that require SATIIs?

I’m aiming for the Ivy League schools. Most of the schools that I’m applying for recommend taking SATIIs.

3 or 4 yrs in a sport won’t make or break you since you’re not going to be recruited anyway. You’ll make it or not based on your GPA, test scores, strength of your essays and LORs and other intangibles. If I were in your shoes, I’d step back. Indeed, I played an instrument from 3rd grade to a high level of proficiency. Dropped it my Senior year b/c my schedule was too packed. Didn’t hurt me any.

Thank you!
