At my school, tennis season is in the spring. I've been in tennis for 3 years so far and will have been in tennis for 4 years next year. However, I don't know if I should put 3 or 4 years of tennis on my applications

Put 3.

4 would be an epic lie Mr.EpicAzn.

on the apps, there’s usually a spot for activities you plan to do ur senior year, so with that, put 4, i did, and i’m fine

If you’re sure you’ll be doing it spring of your senior year, then don’t worry about it and just put four. Don’t short-sheet yourself.

The admission committee is not gonna come harass you about it :)

Put it like this–
Tennis–Grades 9,10,11,12

If you’re sure that you will be playing in the Spring, go ahead and put it down.

Unless you have already been selected as a captain for next year’s team, do not do this. Believe it or not, Admission Officers can count. You can cover this with a separate note to admissions about your intent for playing again or (if you are going regular decision) you can send an update to the school in late Winter. That way if you are going to be a starter you can cover that as well. Your admissions officer will appreciate your integrity and (potentially) give more credibility to your application.

i have the same issue, so your positive that they wouldn’t mind if you put down (12) even though the season hasn’t arrived yet even though you are 100% going to participate?

Generally college applications want to know what you’ve done throughout high school. Unless specifically stated, there is no reason not to include what you will be participating in your senior year. Not to mention 4 years is the maximum you could participate in high school tennis… so, unless specifically stated I would (and I did) include senior year activities.

This. everyone I’ve seen did this, and had no problems. That 1 year isn’t going to make a big difference, and most of the time your plans come true anyway.

k thanks. i think i’ll put down 4 years then

Sorry to thread-jack, but I have a similar question.

What if I stated on my application that I intended to go through with participating in a fourth year of a sport, and then not follow through and send them a postcard after admit decisions (and the season) have officially started? Would that be okay?

er… did you do that already?

^No, just planning for next year

i had the same problem with track (which is in the spring). i put four. no big deal

If I already know that I will be captain for a spring sport, can I include it as 4 years, rather than 3?

^^that’s what i did. i added my senior year into total captain years
