Playing Sports @ USC - Is it hard?

Hi, so I've been lurking on this forum FOREVER because USC is my the-love-of-my-life-school, especially since I want to go into film. I haven't posted anything about chances/etc yet because I haven't finished all of my testing, but I was just wondering how hard it is to join sports @ USC?

For example, if I wanted to run cross-country, or say, distance track, how fast are most girls? (Mile time, 5k time, 800m time?) And, are there lots of club sports/intramurals I could join?

Let me know...thaaanks! (:

indigo,
SC has D-1 sports with athletes who have an extremely high skill level. They are recruited. Since the mild southern California climate allows outdoor sports all year SC also has club sports. These range from tennis to hockey. The club sport members compete against local universities, are provided with uniforms and have coaches. Students really enjoy these teams. They may wish to continue competitive play, but not at the D-1 level.

SC did add a D-1 sport this year. Added for fall of 2011 is Women’s Lacrosse.

Depending on your skill level/level of competition/level of your team’s ability you should have a frank discussion with your coach. He or she will guide you through the process of recruitment. You may or may not qualify for the varsity, you may do a club sport. It is easy to see the times of the girls on the team and how you measure up.

thank you both! (: i was curious about how one would go figuring out how/if they could qualify or get involved. i think, if i were to attend USC, i would most likely go for club sports, since i just love doing them for the team/fun/health. D-1 sports…that’s just too much pressure for me. >__>

Since I have one who graduated from the film school: I think that it would be very challenging to be a D1 athlete and have certain majors. Club sports are open to all. I am familiar with one sport: you find out when practice is…and you show up.
