Please answer me!

Hi,

I'm planning to double major in economics and theatre.

The things is based on what I've heard, if I want to attend both Weinberg and SoC,
I must apply to SoC, then declare economics once I get in.

So my question is, is it easier to get in SoC than Weinberg?

My score and E/Cs or those stuff are pretty solid.

thank you guys

I think if you go to two of the schools you have to pay two tuitions. The difference between doulbe major and dual enrollment is double major is two majors from the SAME school. You’re talking about two different colleges, so the tuition is doubled i think.

I’ve learned frome the website of NU that the schools offer some majors that are available to any students.
I think from what I’ve seen, if you do not attempt to receive two degrees, while you still want to major in both of them, you can apply WCAS majoring in economics, and declare a second major in theatre, vice versa. You will have to finish the required courses of only one of the schools and receive the degree of only one school.

Then how competitive is it majoring in Theatre in SoC?

Any idea?

sorry:( I have no idea. I think theatre is mostly for native students but I’m not.

You CANNOT just declare a major in theatre. You must apply and then be admitted specifically to the theatre major in SoC. You can then double major by adding the Economics major in Weinberg. (There is also the possibility that you can transfer into SoC as a theatre major, but that is a very slim possibility given the “cap” on the number of students accepted as theatre majors.)

Oh! it’s my mistake. Thanks momof3sons for correcting that for me. I attempted to express that you can remain in WCAS while joining the theatre major only that you will not receive a degree from SoC. But of course you still have to apply be accepted by that department.

If you want to be a theatre major you should apply to Northwestern as a theatre major then declare your second major, economics, sometime in freshman year. It’s that simple. Do not go in as an economics major and then try to add the theatre major as that’s a harder route.

sharon: You cannot even apply for the major from Weinberg. You MUST be in SoC to major in Theatre- you should apply directly for that now if you wan’t to do it.

“I think if you go to two of the schools you have to pay two tuitions. The difference between doulbe major and dual enrollment is double major is two majors from the SAME school. You’re talking about two different colleges, so the tuition is doubled i think.”

This is incorrect. Weinberg students can double major within their own school. Other colleges may all double major into Weinberg majors. No dual degree program requires two tuitions, though they require a 5th year. Presently there are:

Bachelors of Music/BA- (Bienen/Weinberg)
Bachelors of Music/BEAS- (Bienen/ McCormick)

I may be missing one.

They are also working on, and its an unofficial option:
Bachelor of Fine Arts- Film/ BEAS (SoC/ McCormick)

@arbiter213 I think the one you’re missing is Bienen/Medill, if I’m not mistaken.
