Please be patient with me...a 3rd question about UC apps....

When I do word count -there is a discrepancy. For the “600” word essay the UC tally says 601 and my word doc. count is 600. I have gone over-word for word-each document 3 times. Even had my Dad read out lound the word doc. as I checked off each word in the UC app. and they are exactly the same. Same with the 2nd essay (2 word discrepancy). The 3rd eassy shows the same word count on both the UC app and my word doc.

What the heck???

Anyone else with that problem?

yeah it did that for mine too...the word count is 600 when i first paste it in, but when i press save draft, it changes to 603 words.

i don't know why though...

prolly something to do with the character count prog'm they have. Going overboard 1 word doesn't matter too much though. It's not like the admin officers won't read it becasue it is 601 instead of 600. 1 word takes less than a second to read.

Yea, that was a super-stress-inducing problem for me, too. But, since I'm a wiz I found out the problem. Basically the problem is that every space(spaces between paragraphs, indentations) are counted as single space counts when you transfer your doc from word to notepad(you did this, right?). So what you have to do is go back to notepad, delete the indentations of paragraphs and hit tab to make the indent. Then go to the spaces between paragraphs and delete them completely so that your two paragraphs flow as one. Then, when in notepad, separate them manually. Then paste what you have now into the online app and voila, you're set.

they did mention that a few words won't matter. I think ur'll be fine. Mine are 1020 total, i think it should be fine, right?

.........i guess not

1020? Damn man, that's pushing it too far. They allow you to go over or under on one essay because they expect you'll compensate in another. They want you to stick to the 1000 overall limit, though.

I think you should do some more editing.

i have 1018...but what are they going to do if you're a little over? not consider you? not read the last 18 or 20 words? they didn't cut me off like the stanford app did, so i thought that meant it's ok...

they said to try to stay around 1000 words..so dont worry
