Your GPA is above average, and your SAT is close to average. The average score is 1980. Your EC’s are good. You definitely have a good chance of getting in. Here is the point system for admission at UCSD.

Step I: Academic review Maximum Consideration
Uncapped Grade Point Average (GPA) 4,500
Scores of all required exams 3,200
Number of “a-g” courses beyond the minimum 500

Step II: Additional academic factors
Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC) 300
Educational environment 300

Step III: Socioeconomic factors
Low family income 300
First generation college attendance 300

Step IV: Personal characteristics and achievement factors
Demonstrated leadership 300
Special talents/ achievements/ awards 300
Community and volunteer service 300
Participation in academic development preparation programs 300
Special circumstances/ personal challenges 500

Step V: Computing a Comprehensive Review score
Eligible applicants will be assigned a comprehensive review score by totaling the scores from each category listed in steps I through IV. Eligible applicants are then ranked based upon that assigned score. Applicants with the strongest combination of academic, personal characteristics and achievement factors will be admitted in sufficient numbers to meet campus enrollment goals.

if you have elc, which is top 4 % in rank in your high school then i would say yes, you are in. ELC students have over a 90% acceptance rate.

match. but i’d bring up those SAT scores just in case!

So if I’m not in ELC, there’s a big chance that I might not make it in?

@smiley!
Just because you aren’t in ELC doesn’t mean you won’t get in. It just means that people who are in ELC are probably going to get in. You still definitely have a shot of getting in.

I think you’re probably in. You have better stats than I do (4.0UCGPA, 1850SAT), and I got in. Good luck!

Bro, I would relax a little.

Granted I was ELC, My gpa was only a 4.0 and my SAT’s were like 1800. Granted I had a ton of AP classes.

@techboy101 How many AP classes did you take ? and how do they fit into the point system? (does each ap class give you extra points in the a-g section, or do they just count as normal points to the a-g section)

They don’t count AP classes in 9th grade and more than 2 AP in 10th grade.

They count only 8 extra points in total for 10th and 11th grade.

So you can have extra points for 2 AP classes or 2 specific honors (not every honor) in 10th grade= 4 points (2 AP * 2 semesters) and 2 AP or 2 honors in 11th grade = 4 point.

Do they take into account what high school you went to?

@uchogwarts
Yeah, UCSD knows the schools and what courses they offer and the schools reputation

@seniorsf thanks :]…so the AP classes only give points to the gpa section ?

you’re definitely in.
but if you want to do some last minute application boosting…
the only thing I would work on are those SAT II scores. (anything over 700+ = fine)
and if you can, make sure you get a total of 200 hours even if you gotta estimate it.
i had similar stats as you last year (4.08 UC GPA, 30 ACT) and did similar stuff (also editor in chief of the paper)
good luck! :D

Some honor classes give you extra point too.

Go with link

<a href=“A-G Policy Resource Guide”>A-G Policy Resource Guide;

and check your school which honor class gives you extra UC point.

Hey guys! I was just wondering again if this was a good schedule for my senior year:

AP ENG Literature
AP GOV and ECON
World Literature
AP CALC
Choir(have to because it’s an art school)
Statistics and Data Analy.

Or instead of a second English class(World Lit), should I take a science class like physiology and anatomy?

I’m planning to be a economics major, so help is needed:[

I say it doesn’t really matter, but I haven’t been in college yet. I would pick an easier class because it’s your senior year after all. You don’t want too much work.
