<p>I'm planning on ED to Upenn and RD to Duke, UNC, and NW</p>

<p>Asian Male</p>

<p>SAT: 2250 (using ACT instead)
PSAT: 227, National Merit Semifinalist (Finalist probably)
ACT: 35 (12 writing)
SAT Subject tests: Physics 780, Chinese 800, taking Math II and US History (expect above 770)
AP: Calc BC-5, APUSH 5, Psychology 5, Environ. Science 5, Physics B 5, English language 5, Chinese 5, Stat 5, Comparative Gov 5, (taking bio, chem, world history, gov and politics, english lit this year) National AP Scholar</p>

<p>GPA: 4.0 UW, 5.36 W (4 for regular class, 5 for honors, 6 for AP)
Class Rank: 1/507 Pretty competitive and big school in an affluent area of NC</p>

<p>Sports:
2 club soccer teams - one recreational and one SELECT(competitive), 10 years
Captain of the SELECT soccer team
Varsity Track - 2 years</p>

<p>Volunteering:
-Key Club (VP of Technology - I made powerpoints for meetings and organized hours) 4 years, over 100 hours
-National Honor Society, 2 years 50 hours
-Town Teen Council, 3 years 75 hours</p>

<p>Others:
-Took classes at local Chinese school since 2nd grade, earned credits. Volunteered as TA after graduation.
-Team leader of Odyssey of the Mind team that won 5th in State freshman year.
-Research intern at North Carolina State University for 2 summers (unpaid)
-Summer program at Appalachian State University where I lived for month and worked on research (earned honorable mention on my research on rocket flight)</p>

<p>Rec letters:
- Awesome letter from ap physics teacher junior year
- Great letter from counselor who I talk to often and knows my personality and hardwork
- Decent letter from ap environ. science teacher who I had sophomore year and volunteer with</p>

<p>I got into Duke with worse scores than that but more leadership and extra curriculars. I think you’ll get into all of those schools honestly. I know I’m not following the official way to reply to a chance thread, but having just finished the applying game myself, Penn will probably be the biggest reach on the list, but since you are applying early, I think you’ll get into all 4 of those colleges.</p>

<p>Your credential looks good. My only concern is your foreign language. Make sure you have at least another SAT2 as the Chinese score may be not counted as 1 of the minimum requirement for some schools as they may treat you as a native speaker. Same for the foreign language requirement.</p>

<p>thanks. I’ll take that advice. I’m just worried that I might have ED’d too high of a reach in uPenn and wasted my ED on some other school like Duke/NW</p>

<p>Your GPA and ACT are great. You are not aiming too high at any school for ED. Just pick the school you most want to go and financially possible and apply for ED.</p>

<p>Don’t consider it a wasted ED. You ED at your top choice because it is your favorite school and want to improve your chances. I personally think you will be accepted to all of those schools is well, even ED at Penn. If you did RD at Penn I would say its a bit of a reach. BUt the research you have done will look great on an application.</p>
