very low gpa, i think that’s your only weakness considering the average gpa of ucsd is very high. but you have an amazing sat score that is well above the average so i think that will balance each other out. good community service too! i think you have a good chance. if you wrote amazing essays then that will be even better on your part.

Thanks chismoso for your valuable response. Infact it is my daughter’s statistics. I am asking all your responses on behalf of her as she is very upset about her performance in 10th grade. However, her 11th grade gpa is 4.33 weighted.

She did take few community college courses to compensate for the lower GPA that she got in 10th grade and she got straight ‘As’ in CC.
Is Molecular and cell biology major impacted at UCSD?

colleges really like seeing an upward trend in gpa so as long as it’s increasing, i think she will be fine. yes, the entire biology department is impacted meaning she must apply to a specific biology major when she applies to the school. if she doesn’t declare the biology major on her UC app, it would be very hard to switch to biology once she’s accepted to the school (kinda my situation right now)

Got in for Fall 2010, Chemical Engineering, Jacobs School of Eng. / Warren

I didn’t have as much EC as your daughter has.

AP Club - Tutored students almost every day after school for 1-3 hours in math and chemistry. (For ~ half a year)
I also founded two clubs. As for my essay, I did feel pretty good about it.

I took only 3 APs throughout my high school career, and they were all in my senior year. Two honors, but they were English for 9th and 10th grade, so it doesn’t really help.
