Thoughts?

Your chances are extremely good. But don’t get your hopes up. There are only so many freshman slots available and sadly many people with a record like yours will be applying. Try going for an interview. If you do good that will increase your chances.

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Without real test scores (forget PSAT) nothing is definitive.

One of the most impressive records I’ve seen. I’m a lot younger than you but I hope to build my application to be half as good as yours! I’m working on my Girl Scout Silver award, but I know that won’t be enough to get me to Columbia aha.
Also, How did you manage to attain 97 and above grade avergages throughout high school? I currently have a 93 in Honors Language Arts and it’s bothering me…
Do you go to a town high school or a magnet school (school you had to apply for)?

You’re likey qualified.

You grades are amazing! I can’t really say much about your test scores at the moment (I don’t consider the PSAT to be a very accurate indicator, since I got around the same score as you on the PSAT and a few months later did significantly better on the SAT without extra preparation), but 2300+ is a good benchmark. I’m not quite sure what you want to major in, but a couple more SAT IIs, one in whatever your preferred area of study is, would also be helpful.

But your grades and ECs are great, and overall I think you’re very qualified to get into Ivies! Don’t get your hopes up, since Ivies aren’t really definite for anyone as I’m sure you know, but you’re definitely in range :)

Thanks to all who replied!! :)

kiekie895: Thank you for your advice–I will definitely keep that in mind. Just curious, how much weight do you think the interview carries? What about recs?

Mandalorian: That’s true. I took the PSAT in the middle of doing an SAT course that has now ended. I’m trying to practice as much on my own as possible. Do you have any tips?

yale925: haha thank you! Have you been in Girl Scouts since “Daisy” years? Just stick with Girl Scouts throughout high school.

Um, I guess studying a lot…? I’ve had the same foreign language teacher since 8th grade (my school is really small–it’s a public high school, not a magnet, but I think we still have a really good national ranking). My teacher has a great grading system and tests are not weighted as heavily as in other classes.

soze: What do you think differentiates the “qualified” students from each other? Essays?

ultrachromatic: Thanks so much and true. I guess I’ll see how it goes on Saturday. :)

It’s impossible to give you definite chances, but know that you certainly are qualified for any school – and that’s saying something!

The only thing that seems “lacking” is creativity; all of your extracurriculars seem business-oriented or have an academic focus. Do you do any music/sports/art/etc. that will make you stand out from all the other mathletes applying to Ivies?

Thebeatlestoday:

Thanks!

I used to take piano lessons and play soccer, but with school work and research, it was difficult.

I do love creative writing (though I don’t write as much as I used to) and English is my second favorite subject behind Biology.
I also have a profound interest in philosophy! For the IB Diploma, I’m writing an extended essay on whether or not it is ethical to end life support for PVS patients. I definitely want to take philosophy classes in college. Does that count as part of the arts haha?
I might ask my philosophy mentor/former English teacher for a rec, but I’m not sure yet.

There are many people with your merits that are applying as well, so don’t be dissapointed if you are rejected! Many people are! However, I’m sure that you will be accepted into a couple, if not 3-4 of the Ivies

Congratulations on your success! Of course with the ivies, there are no guarantees, so make sure to apply to other schools as well. I think it’s important to forget about the names and look at the school itself.

What are my chances for boston college, if I plan on transferring for Fall 2014 from University of San Francisco(first semester freshman with 16 credits).Got a GPA of 3.68 and ACT composite score is 26, TOEFL 102. Do you think I have a chance, and what’s the probabilty of getting accepted?
