PLEASE CHANCE ME!! Colgate Class of 2016?

My real question is will my GPA put me at a disadvantage?

Because I know I can get a 2400 SAT score and that helps.

I’m also looking at NYU btw.,

Thx and Sry for my stupid rant…its just I regret not trying hard in US sometimes :-)

Well, two years ago the average admitted GPA was 3.73. Keep in mind that was offset by athletes whose GPA was much lower, so the average for non-recruits is actually a tad higher. 93% of accepted students were in the top 20% of their class. You should also note that the number of applications has increased since then, so it’s even more competitive.

Your GPA puts you at a HUGE disadvantage. It’s the most important thing on your application, and they may not even really look at your SAT scores because of your GPA. But, if you really want to go for it, just about your only chance is ED.

So from 1 to 10, can you tell me what chances I actually have? You can be honest and brutal as much as you want…I need the truth more than anything else!

Thx…and  how could Colgate be your third choice …its a good school :)

Just kidding!

Well the problem with trying to be that specific is that I don’t know what they’re looking for that year. Each year they try to get a certain amount of muscians, athletes, artists, chemists, ect. When you apply early they’re less likely to be slotting people based on what their needs for the class are, but it remains that you are just a pawn in their designing the class of 2016.

There are also little details, like how tired the admissions officers will be when they read your application. (trivial, I know, but everything plays in. human error, in a sense.)

So if 1 is “no chance, why are you applying?” and 10 is “they practically told me I would be accepted!” I would put you at a 2-4? Idk. It’s so difficult to predict these things, though I ironically was exactly right about what schools I myself would get into and where I wouldn’t.

(And haha, if you count the schools I was waitlisted/rejected at, Colgate was my 6th choice. Not very high up there, but I had some high hopes I guess.)

You don’t really give enough information about yourself, but you are right that your GPA puts you at a disadvantage. But, without knowing where you are from, your ethnic background (it matters in admissions), your other life experiences, the kind of school you attended, other activities (any sports?), and so on, it’s hard to get a complete picture of you. And unless you let the Admissions people know these things, they won’t get a complete picture of you, either. You are not at the middle of the Colgate applicant pool and perhaps well below that. BUT, remember, that even people with weaker records get admitted if there is something Colgate really likes about them. That’s why there is a range of GPA’s and test scores and so on in every entering class. And there has to be one guy at the very bottom who got in for some reason. You really lose nothing in applying, and if you don’t you’ll never know if you might have been admitted. So . . . apply with the best essay and record you can put together, and then relax a bit and see what happens. Choose some lesser schools, too, of course, just in case.

Thank you. I do have extracurriculars and I realize that i am at a disadvantage.

But thanks and yes, i will try to go there

By the way, based on your username (for curioisity sake) do you have a son or daughter that attends Colgate? just wondering !
