Over 400 hours of community service and counting as I have been involved in community orchestra for many years and currently I’m in a theatre group that makes a show every year on social injustices.
I have good letters of rec from teachers that know me very well and for a long time, and my essays are pretty good, hoping my supplemental essay will impress.
I’m hoping that my SAT Subject Test scores don’t hurt my chances too much should I apply ED.
If you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it!
Maintain your privacy on all college advice boards. Apply to match schools with sincere respect for them. Choose a set of reach schools. Don’t dwell on “fit” till you have the privilege of choices in April. That is advice I give anyone. Ditto, be prepared to pay your EFC which means getting your parents to address the paperwork and estimations on that subject. Avoid loans of much size. Apply for any and all merit scholarships and focus on your essays and the quality of your letters of reference. Be yourself. You are enough. Don’t be a “stranger”. Do not make the fatal mistake of ignoring your state flagship honors programs. Make it easy for the committees to get a sense of you. Apply for the Chancellor’s at Vandy. why not? good luck.
Your scores ECs are in the EDI range but you aren’t a lock. I would probably not send the Math 2 and Chem SATIIs since they don’t really help you at all (if you’ve already sent them it won’t really hurt you, but if you haven’t I wouldn’t bother). It all just depends on how your app is subjectively interpreted by the adcoms, so from here on out just do your best to get really strong letters of rec and write a very solid personal statement.
SAT: 1470 (770 math, 700 CR) just re-took, definitely did at least 30 points better on CR aiming for superscore of 1500-1520
SAT II: 800 math 2, 790 chem, 730 bio (probably won’t send bio)
GPA: 3.9UW, 4.7W with consistent grades freshman through junior year
Senior Year Courses: AP Bio, AP Comp Sci, BC Calc, Honors Mandarin 5, Honors English, Honors Band & Honors Orchestra
APs: Chem (5), USH (4) kinda mad about history but whatever
Rank: Top decile, very competitive, affluent public high school
ECs: (just big things)
Club tennis year-round, varsity tennis every year, senior year captain
Work experiencing coaching youth tennis freshman and sophomore years
Started work at a restaurant summer before junior year, work ~15 hours per week through the school year to present
Play 1st chair french horn in honors band and in the orchestra every year
Also part of NHS, student government, done community service through band, and will be inducted into Tri-M music society this coming year
Recs should all be ok as I asked my APUSH teacher and AP Chem teachers who I both liked (and liked me) and did well in their classes, also guidance rec should be decent as I’ve spoken with him a few times and is very nice
Just visited last week and loved everything about it – Nashville, the campus, and the people seemed awesome. Now I have my heart set on Vandy ED1 and need to get in lol
