Please chance me for small, selective liberal arts schools

Hi everyone,

I am a rising senior in high school, planning to graduate in spring of 2011. I hope to be a psychology major at a small liberal arts school. Here are some places I've been considering, which might help to "chance me". Please help me; I'm very very very very nervous about the college application process and I really need a better idea of what I am capable of. Thank you so much!

Bowdoin College

I am a student at a very highly selective Jesuit/Catholic private school in the Chicagoland area, heavily involved in leadership positions on a dance company and my school's Model United Nations executive board. I do a lot of volunteer work each summer in different countries. My GPA freshman year was not as good as it should have been, but I've shown consistent academic improvement.

~Service:
•Homes for Hope Panama 2008: I built a home and a community kitchen in Panama with a group of teenagers I had never met before from all around the world. It allowed me to make friends from different places, humble my spirit and find happiness in places other than materialism, and learn how to work with unique groups and lift a 700 pound log or make cement with a shovel.
•Homes for Hope Jamaica 2009: Panama was such an amazing experience that I went back and built a home in Jamaica. While I still experienced many of the same emotions, I also learned a multitude of different lessons about serving for the right reasons and working with types of people I was not used to.
•Young People Who Care: I will be traveling to Pennsylvania for a service trip with 16 other people from my school.

I think that is all of the information you need, but if there's anything else, just ask. Thank you for reading and chancing me! I appreciate it very much.

You look like a strong match for all of the schools listed. My guess is that Holy Cross will be the easiest to get into because it is a Jesuit college and they show preference to Jesuit high schools.

Thank you!
I’m interviewing at Holy Cross this summer, and I think it’ll end up being one of my top choices. I think Davidson would be my first choice at this point (but I still have all of my visits/interviews to do.)

I think you are a Match/high match for all except for Bowdoin and Middlebury. Those would be somewhat reaches for you.

Ok, I’ll make sure those supplements are extra-good then. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

Davidson is not a match.

Also keep in mind that middle 50% SAT scores/average incoming GPAs for these schools may be somewhat lower than what you would actually need to be accepted, accounting for hooked and ED applicants.

Your best bet is to apply somewhere ED, though doing that without a clear first choice isn’t recommended.

Thanks for replying! Can you tell me why Davidson isn’t a match for me, though? Just out of curiosity…are their high selectivity rates out of my range? Davidson was recommended to me by my college counselor and I’m visiting/having an informational interview there in two weeks.
I’m visiting all of the listed schools and will apply somewhere ED for sure. I just don’t know which one yet…but knowing me, I will definitely have a clear favorite.
My test scores are unfortunately average, but I’m taking the ACT again tomorrow and the SAT again in October. I was very disappointed with my scores, especially ACT Science and SAT Critical Reading, but hopefully I will do better the second times!
