Chance me and I'll chance you =)

STATS:

GPA: 3.6
SATs: 1520
Rank is about 70 out 700
Last grades were horrible due to several personal problems, etc:
AP Span= A
Criminal Justice= A & C
AP Stats= C (the worst grade I have ever got in Math or any other subject)
AP Gov=B
AP Lit= B
AP Macro= B
AVID 12= B (She doesn't like me too much; I don't like her neither) =)

I have in USA for two years now and I want to know if I will qualify for top ranked schools or other average schools.

My grades have been average:
Freshman:
Grades are in a 1-10 scale, but I had like almost all 8s (they were really hard classes)

Sophomore:
Fall: 3.0 (It was when I got here, but my grades in Mexico the first two exams periods I got like a 8.7, again very hard classes; this school is a bachelor school and is where President Calderon graduated; they explain that they are a bachelor s. in the letter they gave me to transfer here, but it didn't work with the schools here.)
Spring: 3.7

Junior:
Fall: 3.75
Spring: 3.88
My classes were not the best, but they were the ones that I could take according to the schools and my counselors at that time (my fresno conselour screw my classes.) She made me repeat a lot of courses I had taken in my 7th, 8th, and 9th grades; like biology, geometry and algebra II (in my freshman I took physics, chemistry and trigonometry.) She even made me repeat computers 1 (she said it was a mistake) when I know everything about computers (I attend private schools in Mexico and they teach pretty well in my schools.) Now I have another couselor more competent, but he is sometimes very lazy.

I hate my school's staff and some teachers, but I love some other teachers. I have pretty good recommendation letters; the best one is from my AP Span teacher. =)

I won diplomas in Mexico. Some recognitions also. Here, I haven't receive anything since the school focuses more in students that can pass from a 2.9 to a 3.0. =(

Music
I play 10 or more instruments, honestly I don't remember (all instruments semi-professional), especially my guitar. I have played in 37 concerts (for my schools here and Mexico, national, and some international (all of them were in Mexico though, since my school is well known for music (Yoyo Ma saw me play, but he left before I could talk to him =( )

Sports;
-I played varsity soccer (Captain), basketball, and volleyball.
-I haven't played varsity here because it is a public school and basketball is competitive (I'm not that tall);there is no volleyball team (last year I think they had one, but it suked) and I hate the varsity soccer coaches (they think they are funny (they are not) and they have favorites.)
-I am captain of Mexico F.C. (champions) and also play with Fresno Utd.

Community Service and Work Experience:
-More than 600 hrs in CS in my Church (youth group and Guadalupana Society and member of the music team of the youth group and the Migrant Program)
-I work with my dad in his little photography business (I think just with that I make more than 1000 hrs. in two years and a half.) I worked my dad's friend in Mexico in almost the same thing ( I would guess cause I'm not sure, but I think I got like 300 hrs. in 1 year) Office Clerk for a summer in my 9th grade. (200 hrs)

Essays are pretty good. I explain everything i have passed through but it calls the reader's attention or at least that is what my AP Lit teacher said.
Stats are horrible. (I know, but I can't do anything right now)
ECs are pretty good too. (I guess)

I really don’t know much about these colleges, but your ECs are definitely your strong point, and you should definitely explain them. Can you give more detail about your soccer thing? That sounds pretty amazing. And needless to say, music will definitely help you, especially if you plan on continuing in college (which I assume you will). I would say that, despite your low stats, you have a pretty decent chance at all of those. By the way, is that SAT out of 1600 or 2400? I was hesitant to make a decision because I didn’t know.

Since I didn’t give you a real chance, you don’t have to give me a real chance, unless you want to:

Thanks…I will chance back. =)
@ cgb8007: what does Natch mean?

Unfortunately, the SATs are out of 2400… =(

Natch means Match. It was a typo, I think.

Well, then, your SATs will definitely hurt! But I don’t know, your stellar ECs might make up for that.

Thanks! I hope they do!!!

I don’t really know too much about these schools so my chances might not be completely accurate. However, it seems that you have a great course schedule in terms of rigor and your EC’s are awesome. As you know, the only major part of your application that could use some work is your SAT, so maybe if you have a chance or they offer another test date you could take the ACT which you may find easier. Poor SAT scores are not the end of the world though and colleges with holistic admissions processes should look past the numbers. Good Luck!
