bump 10char

bumppppppp

I think you have a good list of reach schools but you may want to add another match and safety school, if you don’t currently have one on your radar. Some other good choices might be Rice, WashU, Northwestern (mid/low reaches), USC, UCB (matches), UCD, UCI (safeties). Are you a CA resident?

Your EC’s don’t seem overly distinctive, for the top-tier schools on your list, but you should definitely apply and see what happens. I like your chances at JHU and UCLA. Good luck!

So, your Scores and GPA are great! But, your Extracurriculars, no offense, seem mediocre. That’s great that you’re in all of those clubs, but being a member in many clubs is less impressive than having leadership positions in many clubs. You may also want to start a sport to make yourself appear to be more well rounded. Or even an art! Because right now, your ECs seem to be a little academic heavy. Johns Hopkins, UCLA, Duke, and Georgetown seem mid acceptance-low reach for you, and the rest are reaches for ANYONE. Hope this helped! Have a great day! Chance back?

You aren’t a National AP Scholar.

rank is fine (though your GPA looks a little inflated), and test scores are somewhat low for top schools. Your biggest problem is extracurricular activities - your list is very thin. Because of that, all the schools on your list (with the exception of UCLA) are at least mid reaches, with your chances at MIT/Harvard/Penn/Yale/Columbia nearing 0.

Thank you for the input. I am only about to start my junior year so I will def. work with my ECs/leadership but, do you guys think most of the school are reaches even with my hooks?

for all Ivy, I think you should get 2200 at least but others I am sure that you can get in.

Have you looked into UVA/UNC?

Yes, most of the schools you listed would be reaches for you (even w/your hooks). There is a very large, talented applicant pool of URMs glued to CC looking for ways to distinguish themselves. For most of the schools listed you’d need 2200+ to get your foot in the door.

For schools like Duke, UPenn, Columbia, etc. you should really consider applying ED (where you could potentially double or triple your chances for admission). Some of the above were schools my son applied to and during campus information sessions they were quite frank & transparent about ED being the way to go. Of course, you can only apply to one of them ED and therein lies the great dilemma about which school to apply early to. ED, EA, SCEA,…(What to do???)

Given what my son (URM Mexican-American) and his friends (also URMs) went through last year w/the uber low admissions rates, I’d say take some time to work on those EC’s. The lower the SAT the more unique and mindblowing your EC’s need to be. Wait, I take it back…even with a 2400 your EC’s need to be eye-watering to distinguish yourself. My son was actually one of the luckier ones last year and got into some great schools. Most admissions letters had a small handwritten note talking about how they were impressed with his EC’s. Good Luck!
