Please Chance Me for Wellesley

Here are my stats.

ACT (first time): Composite-26, English-31, Math-19, Reading-27, Science-26
ACT (second time): Composite-26, English-32, Math-25, Reading-24, Science-21
NOTE: I am NOT retaking the ACT. One of the reasons I scored poorly is because I have bad test anxiety. On my practice tests I consistently score 31-32, so if I'm repeatedly scoring 26 on the real thing I highly doubt my score will improve.

GPA: 3.30 unweighted, 3.33 weighted.
NOTE: This is because I was slacking off my freshman year and received many C's and D's. From the second semester of my sophomore year onwards I have gotten all A's (except for one B and one C). I have an incredibly strong upward trend. I am currently getting A's in all my classes and should be graduating with a 3.56 weighted GPA and 3.49 unweighted GPA.

SAT: Scored considerably poorly. Am not submitting this.
SAT subject tests: N/A

AP classes: AP Stats, AP Psychology. Scored a 5 on the AP Psychology exam. (Haha...I was pretty shocked that I did so well.)
Concurrent Enrollment (college) classes: Japanese Language I (this semester), Japanese Language II (next semester)
Honors: Honors American Lit., Honors Brit. Lit. (<--I'm taking this senior year)
Other notable classes: I was two years ahead in math when I entered high school. So I took Algebra II my freshman year, Pre-calc./Trig. second year, Statistics junior year and AP Statistics senior year.

Extracurriculars:
- Editor-in-chief of school newspaper
- Layout designer of yearbook
- Peer mentor
- Also part of Anime Club, Book Club, Gaming Club, and Student Government
- Did volunteering at the library every summer freshman through junior year
- Have played flute for 6 years
- Was one of the main characters in a community theater play this past summer

Recommendations: Stellar
Essay: By far the most attractive part of my application. I chose "topic of your choice" and created my own prompt. Seriously, I have received amazing compliments on my essay. Not to brag or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if my essay is published in the next Princeton Review essay book.
Why Wellesley essay: I haven't finished proofreading it yet, but so far I think it's pretty good. I haven't been able to visit the campus yet, so I took a rather unique approach to show how it was the perfect school for me. I think I did a really good job of showing why Wellesley is the perfect fit for me, but I'll send it to some people to make sure.

I am also submitting an art supplement, for which I will be playing 2 different pieces on flute. I am also submitting a clip of my monologue from the play I was in this summer.

So, what are my chances? I am aware that my test scores are low and my GPA isn't perfect, but I hear that Wellesley puts tremendous emphasis on the essay. Is this true? Chances from everyone would be great, but I would really like it if a current Wellesley student/alumnae could chance me.

Oh, also could you chance me for some other schools? I'm applying to:
Bryn Mawr
Mount Holyoke
Scripps
Smith

Oh, forgot to mention that I am also interviewing.

bummmmmmmp

Here are my grades from freshman years onwards, so you can see what I mean by upward trend:
Freshman year: 2.82 1st semester: 3.20 2nd semester: 2.50
Sophomore year: 3.33 1st semester: 2.83 2nd semester: 3.83
Junior year: 3.9 1st semester: 3.6 (received all A’s except 1 C in physics :frowning: )
2nd semester: 4 UW, 4.17 W
Senior year: So far all A’s  Should be receiving a 4 UW and a 4.17 W. Am also taking classes at local community college this semester.

According to the Wellesley web site (web.wellesley.edu:80/web/Admission/Apply/FAQ/testing.psml#factor), the mean ACT test score for those accepted to the class of 2015 was 30.

Your ACT composite of 26 is the equivalent of an SAT CR + M of 1190 (see [ACT-SAT Concordance](The ACT Test for Students | ACT))

It looks like your Math of 25 would have an SAT equivalent of 570, your English, 720, and your Reading, 610.

Not sure how the equivalence works between ACT English and Reading and the SAT Reading, but let’s say they take an average, which would be 665. (ACT with Writing provides a Writing score – did you take the ACT with Writing?)

19% of applicants accepted to the class of 2015 had a Math SAT between 550-590.
30% of applicants accepted to the class of 2015 had a Reading SAT between 650-690.

Whereas it is true that your GPA has shown an upward trend, you are competing against applicants who have maintained high grades throughout all four years of high school.

So I would say that Wellesley is a reach for you.

I agree with Fendrock’s take. You should consider including something to explain how you “got it” somewhere along during your junior year and learned something about yourself that allowed you to begin to flourish and show what you can do. For the other schools on your list, their admission numbers are a little more forgiving. Smith and Mt. Holyoke don’t require the submission of test scores - not sure of the other two - so that would allow you to focus on the other parts of your application. You can certainly look at their numbers to see how yours compare, but I wouldn’t think any of them would be a safe bet. If you like the all-women aspect, you might consider adding Simmons to your list. It’s a fine school in the heart of Boston.
