Please chance me! Wellesley class of 2015

Sorry to post another chance thread but every since I first read about Wellesley it has pretty much become the only school I can imagine myself at (I'm sure that happens a lot:)) and I guess like many people I'm just nervous about my chances. I know any input here at CC is subjective but I would appreciate it nonetheless.

General: I go to a private school pretty much completely on financial aid and scholarships as my parents make well below 60k a year. My school usually sends a few kids to top universities each year but is pretty small (the upper school consists of around 300 students). Honors courses are not offered but there is an 'advanced' math track beginning with advanced algebra II sophomore year and students are not allowed to take AP courses until junior year when we are allowed to take 2. I'm not sure if this matters but I am part of a small percentage of minority students (10% of the student body - Something that appeals to me about Wellesley is the much greater amount of diversity!).

GPA (unweighted): 3.79, my school doesn't calculate class rank but I am almost positive I am in the top 10%

Classes:
9th - I didn't do very well the first semester because my parents had just gotten divorced literally the month school started and I couldn't focus very well on school work then. My cumulative gpa would be closer to 3.9 had I not had an awful first semester.
- Algebra I
- Geometry (summer)
- English ('Literary Genres')
- World History I
- Biology
- French II
10th
- Advanced Algebra II
- British Lit
- World History II
- Physics
- French III
11th
- Advanced Pre-calculus
- AP Statistics (Ap exam - 5)
- American Lit
- AP US History (Ap exam - 5)
- Chemistry
- French IV
12th
- AP BC Calc
- AP English

- AP French
- AP Psychology

Testing:
SAT I Verbal - 660; Math - 700; Writing 730 (first try)
SAT Subject Tests: US History - 790; Math I - 730 (I'll probably try for a third one this fall)
ACT composite: 31 (I will take again, completely bombed the science section)

ECs:
Honor Band (clarinet) - 4 years (I've been playing for at least 8 years though), I have been first chair the entire time (the band program is pretty small though). Last year I made All-State band and got 'superior' ratings for my solo at both the Regional and State solo and ensemble competition.
International Club - 4 years (I was elected secretary for the next school year)
Interact Club - 2 years (I am a member of the student board)
Varsity softball - 2 years (I quit after sophomore year so I'm not sure if this counts as an extracurricular)
Volleyball team manager - 9th grade
Quiz Bowl - 2 years, we made it to nationals this last year
World Quest - 2 years (a lot like quiz bowl except with politics and culture)

Other:
Houston Japan Festival volunteer - 3 years
Public Library volunteer
I have a summer job at a pre-school (about 30 hours/week)
Summer band camp
Non-credit music theory course from the University of Wisconsin at Madison

Wellesley is absolutely my first choice and I hope to apply ED this fall. Any input at all as to what I should improve on/do is also greatly appreciated :) thanks

Good for you girl!

I’m a Wellesley Woman and honestly… I’m less qualified than you, but most of my friends are in your ballpark. I got in without being wait-listed, but Wellesley cares a lot about your personality, your leadership skills, your essay and how you present yourself in the interview.

Honestly… I think you’ve got a good chance of getting in, 9/10. I won’t say for certain because, I don’t know you. But… I definitely don’t doubt you. Also, they don’t skimp on financial aid for you. That is… killing me right now, and though I love Swellesley, I almost regret my decision now.

I got in with the following stats:

I came from a small, catholic, college prep. the only black female in my graduating class. My class rank was top 20%… I’m not proud of that.

I am African American/Afro-Carribean, but honestly, I’m certain that didn’t get me in. I believe our school is currently 56% non-white American. This year’s percentage will be higher, but I just got out of lab and am too tired to do anything but pontificate.

:)

G.P.A. Weighted: 4.03
Unweighted (seriously, this is the one that counts): 3.33

SAT: Total: 2010
Writing: 700
Reading: 670
Math: 640
SAT II (I… seriously bombed these. scared the hell out of me.)
Math I - 680
Latin - 660
Chemistry - 670

ACT (not submitted, heh) 27.

And, Woman, why do you need to retake on a 31? All you need are those SAT scores… this is just my opinion, don’t waste your money, you’ll need it in college. And if you know another language well, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking a third SAT II in that language. It can get you out of Wellesley’s language requirement, which is something I can only dream of at this point.

Lets see… I had a crap-ton of EC’s, Robotics, National Junior Classical League, Band, Choir, Basketball, etc. Eh, Vice-P here, President there, etc etc… My school required mandatory community service, so I did a couple things with Veteran’s Affairs, hospice care.

Though I got A’s in my three AP courses, I got a 2 on my AP Chem exam (I love Chemistry, but I gave up and started drawing pictures, would have gotten a 1 if not for my delightful depiction of a smiley-face hydrocarbon). I sent in 4 and above (Latin, English lit and language).

I applied to Wellesley as a Chemistry major. I’m still in science, but no longer Chem.

–
Several things: I am up for answering questions if you have specific ones you need a student opinion for. :)

And… maybe its bad of me to give this to you. But have you seen wellesleyfml yet? Before you go there, know that there may be some plants there by students from other colleges and that not all of them are true. But lots of them are; I’ve posted… 10 or so myself.

you will easily get in!

I got in with a 3.3 GPA unweighted with really great ECs and a 33 ACT

maybe get your SAT/ACT up
