I have won a business plan competition and been on the high honor roll for three years. I have taken several online courses taught my MOOC’s and got verified certificates. Most importantly, I compete on the national level for Speech and Debate and am a state finalist (won’t give state or rank as it will reveal identify). I compete seriously nationally and I have placed in quarterfinals, semi finals and finals at several national tournaments and have been invited to the TOC.
Please give your honest opinion! If I have no chance, just say so!
It seems to me you have a very decent chance, definitely worth to apply. It also will depend on your essay and some other factors the admission committee would use - those we don’t know. There are absolutely no guarantees you get in, so make sure to apply to several other colleges and include 1 or 2 safety nets.
@IvyWin - my son didn’t apply ED to Penn and I think it was a big mistake, even though he eventually got in. So yes, I’ll be advising my younger son (if he’s doing as great by than) to apply ED. Much better chance.
I think it’s in the range. You don’t need a perfect SAT/GPA. My son has SAT of 2360 and GPA of over 104 (not sure how it translates into 4/5 scales) and a lot of other good things on his resume, yet he was denied to a few Ivys. Other kids with very good but not as great as his scores/resumes were accepted… Go figure…
So what exactly could I do to prepare? I’m a little torn between Wharton and H/P but idk if i could get in to those REA, and its a big sacrifice to give up on Wharton’s ED.
The only thing you can do now is to keep up the grades, continue doing what you’re already doing, and start working on your essays - research online, have your teachers and parents to check it and give you some feedback. Important - don’t ignore the feedback! Good luck!
