I have won a business plan competition and been on the high honor roll for three years. I have taken several online courses taught my MOOC’s and got verified certificates. Most importantly, I compete on the national level for Speech and Debate and am a state finalist (won’t give state or rank as ti will reveal identify). I compete seriously nationally and I have placed at several national tournaments and invited to the TOC.
D applied to Princeton this year with a 36 ACT and 3.8 GPA, not even wait listed. Your extracurriculars are exceptional but it is far more competitive than you can possibly imagine. I would think your in the top few percent of your class not top 10 percent based on your weighted GPA. How do you fit into the Princeton class of 2020?
Im in the top 10% not top 5%, my school is fairly competitive. I am Asian American. @Wje9164be coudl you possibly give any tips on what I could change/do? Also, would ED to Wharton be a better option or Princeton given my stats. I can’t decide, but both seem too competitive lol
It was a local competition held by a private organization. But it was fairly serious, there was 600 or so in prize money and we wrote a 20 page or so business plan and and pitched it to investors.
Can you tell us if your state for debate was competitive or not? i.e. NJ, NY, Cali, Florida, or NC(depending on your event) This is at least for PF debate, which is what I do and I was the district champion in one of these states. Considering you qualified for the TOCs, I am guessing you are at least in a decently competitive state. The competition of your state matters. So if you are coming from a less competitive area like parts of the Midwest, then your debate accomplishments are given less weight, but still are considered heavily. I am also applying to Princeton early and it looks we are actually very similar in stats and ECs. Hopefully they need a couple of debaters this year, ik the national champion for one debate event is graduating as we come in, so filling in that spot would be nice.
@thebossofbosses I’m from Massachusetts, and we have a pretty competitive field in my category (this year we have probably one of the top ppl in the entire nation graduating)! The state tournament is also very competitive given that so many schools have competitors who regularly make it into to finals in nat tourneys.
First, I would advise you not to apply to ten reach colleges thinking sheer probability will get you into one of them. It doesn’t work that way. You need to stand out of the crowd for the admissions officer in some way. Your ECs show that you are exceptional but they are a bit all over the map in terms of interest. What do you want to be an attorney, artist? Princeton carefully builds a class each year. So many legacy, so many international, so many athletes, as many URM as possible, some developmental admits. What’s left is maybe 50 percent of the class split further by sex. Of that small group you are really competing with, what makes you stand out. Even though demonstrated interest is not a factor in Ivy admissions, reach out to your admissions officer and strike up a dialog. your essays are incredibly important. If you have any strings, relatives or family friends or colleagues of your parents with ties to princeton, use them, Do not naively think that admission is based on chance or purely your stats
I’m interested in business, which is the reason why I took MOOC’s on it to demonstrate interest. I’m really not sure If want to RA there since its gonna ve impossible to get in.
