Please chance me guys (OOS)

In addition, I was not sugar coating anything. I told you a true story about people from my school.

I think as long as you take the maths, it does not matter when you take them. I didn't take AP Calculus AB, BC, or AP Physics (because I absolutely despise math) and I got in. I may have been a year ahead, but I only went as far as AP Statistics.

AP maths look good, no matter when they are taken.

Yeah, Im in Alg II this year. Pre-Cal and AP calc are full-year courses however and I am not sure if that would work out. Bu if so, that's an option. Also, I am doing senior scheduling this week and was wondering something. I am wondering whether to take AP Psychology or not. I have heard it is looked upon not as the level of other AP's. Wondering if I should bother, but it would only help my gpa, but then again, UNC wouldn't see it because I would be a senior.

PS: blairb, if I am correct, you were IS. It's so different for an OOS like me trying to get in.

TarHeelBound-

That may be, but I had just as many AP classes as several OOS students who were offered admission.

I did not know that; these are semester classes here. AP Psychology is easy, but still holds the weight of an AP class. Any AP class looks good, and the more you take, the better.

I would consider: AP Stats or Calc. (if you can), AP U.S. History, AP Psych., AP Chem., AP Gov., AP Bio., and possible AP Earth/Environmental.

I've taken a good number of AP classes, but I wish I had taken more. If you can handle, I would really load up on them. APUSH, APES, and AP Psych. are not too difficult, so I think you can handle that. AP Gov. is also pretty easy, AP Stats was difficult for me (because my teacher was very harsh), and I've heard Chem. is hard, Calc. AB is not too bad, and Bio. is semi-hard.

Anyway, if you take a lot of AP classes, that should definitely boost your GPA. My GPA went up .3 points just after taking 3 (and making As in them).

Yeah, I will be taking a lot of AP's next year, but my 3.6 GPA will be unchanged by that when I apply.

So I called UNC and they said taking AP Calculus wouldn't matter much at all. I'll just take Trig and Pre-Cal along w/ AP Physics next year.

I didn't take AP Calc (and did take Pre-calc and AP Physics) and I got in OOS two years ago.

Holy crap, two years ago...I'm old.

Ha, well that's kind of nice to hear. :)

So after my Junior year, looks like My Cum. GPA will be about a 3.8 weighted and 3.6 unweighted. Is that still okay you think guys? Most of the AP's are coming on next year for me.

Anyone think it is high enough?

TarHeelBound-

It's really hard to say at this point. You need to take a lot of AP or Honors courses and make at least an A or B in each, preferably an A. I think your GPA is good, but you need to make up for it a little bit. Many OOS people had over a 4.0 weighted, so you should beef up your application with work hours, volunteer hours, and other ECs. I think you definitely have a shot, though.

Yeah, you are pretty much right. I did get into the National Honor Society today so that can't hurt, but I am always really busy with sports it seems.

That's really good! Congrats!

Sports are good, too, and would definitely add to your "well-roundedness."

Tarheelbound: First off, your stats are very impressive and definitely think you have a good shot at acceptance coming from WV. Even if you were not admitted as a freshman, you could apply to transfer in as a sophomore. According to the admissions site, the average Transfer SAT for sophomore is a 1220 followed by a 3.4 college GPA.

Yeah, I know I could get in as a transfer student after 1 year at another school. If I had to pick another school to attend for a year before heading to Chapel Hill, it would probably be Elon University. It's a nice, beautiful college that one of my buddies is actually going to to play basketball. But it wouldn't really feel right. Not like Carolina anyways.

bump/ 10 char

Don't worry about it...
I know some people who were in-state and had lower gpas than you and they got in.

make sure you don't have any "c's" on your transcript...that killed one of my friend's chances. (she's applying this year)
But your SAT score is good. You'll be fine

Yeah, I dont have any C's as of yet and hope to keep it that way.

And I'm sure there were in-staters with lower gpa's, but mine is pretty low for OOS. I just don't have a good feeling. My essay and SAT will have to do it.But no matter what,I cannot stop worrying because if I dont get in, I am probably not going to college. I don't want to be anywhere else.

Okay, so I was a bit off. It appears my UW GPA heading into Sr year will be around 3.6 and W it will be near a 3.9. Is re-taking the SAT I worth it to try and bump up my score or is it probably good enough. I really appreciate the posts from you all. I will definately do my best to get involved in some sort of summer programs after school lets out.

My senior schedule:

AP Literature
Trig
Art I (required)
AP Physics
AP U.S. History
Pre-Cal
AP Psychology

Is this pretty sufficient? Its about the most rigorous I could make it.

That sounds very good. I got into UNC oos & my senior schedule wasn’t nearly as rigorous:

AP Lit, AP Calc AB
Dual Enrollment: Humanities I & II, General Psychology, Intro to Sociology, Contemporary Ethics, Macroeconomics

I’d say you have a great chance.
