EC: Varsity Swimming, Varsity Tennis, President National Honor Soceity, Editor-in-Chief of School paper, Volunteer 4 hours per week as an attorney at local youth court, writer Sun-Sentinel (newspaper for my area)

I think top colleges will like my growth throughout high school especially in academics. Also my EC list is not very long but it is concentrated around writing and law, which are two of my passions. Tell me what you all think and if I have a shot at any of the ivies?

GPA is arounda 4.9. I am not geographically from somewhere special, but I do go to a very competitive private school. And schools, I am not the type of kid who is going to apply to just HYPS, although if I got in, it would be hard to turn down. A dream school for me is Columbia or Penn because I love the area and I know a lot of people that go there and I like the people they select for their school.

I'm in no position to chance, being a junior begging for chances myself....

But by looking at the rigor of your schedule and your achievements in AP classes, you seem to the kind of student top schools want. The 2180 SAT could be higher (from what I've heard, 2200+ is safer for Ivies)

They don't want super-long EC lists. They look for leadership and passion. Someone who's extremely devoted to a few activities has a better chance than someone casually involved in every club their school offers.

For schools: If you know your dream schools include Columbia and Penn, then you should definitely look there!

Hope it helped. Check out my thread!

We need to know your class rank and the caliber of your school to even begin.

At my very tough private school, stats need to be well above average at a school to get in. They don't give breaks to kids who've had an elite education.

You also have to understand the competition from your school and region. If like me you live in NYC, you are competing against a ton of legacies and the very connected. You would have needed to cure cancer to get considered at HYP as val/2400 if you're not plugged in.
