P.S. - Leave me a link or put a post if you want me to chance you!

The only thing I can say is work on your ECs (and please post them, it’d be a major help) and kick ass on your SATs. Keep up your GPA too.

oh, im so sorry! i totally forgot to put my ec’s on here.

Ec’s are as follows:

JV and Varsity tennis
Scholar’s Bowl
Science Olympiad
Stuco
National honors society
Key Club
About 50 hrs of volunteer work
I work at my dad’s buisness during the summers and weekends during school weeks.

Im so sorry i forgot about this :[.

Thanks for your reply though :].

Ec are here!!! ^^^^^^

bump :]

To be honest with you if you want to compete at high end universities you need to attempt to take the SAT and raise your ACT a little. Extracurriculars look fine to me but I will tell you one thing that someone told me for college apps. Seeing that you are Asian and that you participated in a lot of stereotypically “asian” things so to speak is not the greatest thing for colleges (remember this is what someone told me, I myself am not sure about this and am somewhat doubtful). This is because it keeps you in the typical group of those minorities. For example, there are a lot of asian students who play tennis, are in key club, the national honors society, and science olympiad, but what makes you stand out from those students? That’s the thing I think colleges are looking for.

Yes, agreed. I know i need to take the SAT but the only section i fear is the vocab…(damn u vocab section). i do fine on the other sections because i got a 710 in math and like a 630 in writing on the sat’s during the summer courses but like 500’s on the vocab…

but if i do get like a 33 or so on the ACT…can this get me into most top tier schools :o?

oh btw, i chanced you…your stats look great =).

To be honest, it’s pretty hard to tell right now, especially as a rising junior, without subject tests, SAT, AP scores, etc. But you are certainly off to a great start
This is as of now:
The Univ. of Kansas - Safety
Univ. of Texas at Austin - Safety/Low Match
Cornell - Reach
Columbia - High Reach
John Hopkins - Reach
Dartmouth - High Reach
Brown - High Reach
Northwestern - Reach
Yale - Higher Reach
Univ. of Washington at St. Louis - Low Reach

A 31 ACT is average/below average for most of your top tier schools; shoot for 33+
You’ll need 2100+ SAT for most top schools (if your doing engineering, go for 750+ Math, Verbal will be less important, maybe 650+) 700+ for subject tests…Your ECs are average but solid. I’m sure this time next year, you’ll have much better odds! Good luck!

Wow I didn’t even realize you were a junior, you have a good chance to improve everything. Work on those vocab words (make flashcards and work at it every day) and then do the same for the areas of the act you are having trouble with. So basically a 33+ on ACT or 2150 + SAT.

Hard to tell now, but:

The Univ. of Kansas - in
Univ. of Texas at Austin - don’t know with the recession and the 10 percent rule.
Cornell - reach
Columbia - reach
John Hopkins - small reach
Darthmouth - reach
Brown - reach
Northwestern - small reach to reach
Yale - no shot.
Univ. of Washington at St. Louis - small reach.

thanks to all replies and yeah im a junior right now. I am also thinking of dropping ap bio this year for physics BECAUSE… 1, it is taking like most of my day to get notes/homework done in that class alone and i dont have much time left for other homework and 2, the teacher isnt the best…this is her 2nd year and she is covering like 5 chapters in one week…a lil too fast for me right now with my schedule.

SO…in otherwords, if me dropping ap bio for physics changes ANYONES opinions on what they said earlier…pls feel free to change lol bc i wont mind :]. and thank you to everyone who posted…greatly appreciated.
