I see no reason why you wouldn't get in. Your GPA is solid and so is your SAT. Good Ec's too.

You could probably get a huge scholarship if not a full ride.

FWIW, about 3 years ago I was told that to be eligible for the Dean's Scholarship (the full tuition one), they were typically looking for an SAT score of 1450 (this is math & verbal, before the new structure).

A friend of our family applied recently with a GPA similar to yours and an SAT of about 1300. Very good EC's and recs. She was offered a small scholarship (I don't know the exact amount but it was under $10k per year).

I know that other parents who look at this board have kids who have received some excellent scholarships. I'm sure they'll post about what they know re stats, etc.

Good luck! Tulane (and New Orleans) is a fantastic place for the right kind of kid.

My son just got accepted to Tulane. 4.0gpa, 1930 SAT, 29ACT, Class Rank #1, All IB program classes. His acceptance letter just came the other day with a $20,000 a year merit scholarship renewed automatically each year if he maintains a 2.5/7 gpa? Not sure exactly on the gpa.

The only problem for us, is that Tulane costs about $47,000 a year to go to. That means that the difference we need is about twice as much as our state college. We'll look at other scholarships, but I think it's going to be cost prohibitive without some other scholarships. My son really liked the idea of going to Tulane. He likes our state University, but really has a desire to move away and go to school.

Well, Michigan State, Washington State, and Oregon State are all interested too. We'll have to see if we can get some other scholarships for Tulane.

It's not necessary to have a 1450, is it? I have a 1440 =/

Go ahead and apply for it...the worst that can happen is you'll not get a full ride but very likely to get a 1/2 ride.

On the other hand, if you don't apply, the chances of getting a full ride are 0...

For those interested in Tulane and looking for more scholarship money -- go ahead and fill out the application for Dean's Honor scholarship... I believe deadline is December sometime and it can't hurt to apply if you are close to the stats that are stated... I believe last year the notifications were made around Feb 15th, so you had information well in time to also consider other colleges and their respective packages.

I had a 3.4 1350/2080 SAT and i got 24K/year. Not sure how I got it but I did :)

Christcorp, if you need more than the merit money you're awarded, wait until you receive your full finaid offer before deciding you cannot afford it. It should include need-based money, including grant money, work-study and a couple of kinds of loans. (Get that CSS and FAFSA in early!) It's up to you how much of that you accept. In any case, all is not lost. You can also work. Our son has two jobs as well as his DSA and need-based grant (and, and...). Communicate with the people at Tulane who know what's really available.

Well I just got accepted on Saturday to Tulane and received a $24000 Presidential Scholarship. I was also invited to participate in the honors college and also to apply to the Dean's Honor Scholarship which could result in full tuition (but not room or board I believe) and to apply for need based aid. I may also get a national merit scholarship but I'm not sure of the value.

I had a 97/100, top 5% at a good Jesuit high school, solid ECs, Hispanic, National Merit SF and National Hispanic, and a 1550/2350.

However, based on your numbers I can't see why you wouldn't get at least in the upper teens in scholarship money if not the $24000.

It is about $50 grand to attend--up over $10k since Katrina.

It's a pretty good school and I'm looking at it largely because of the free application. However, it may end up cheaper for me to attend than my state school.

Give it a go--it's a free app and you don't have to write a new essay. The entire app took me less than an hour. And they let you know within 4 weeks of receiving all of your materials.
