Please, Chance Me!!!! (UCLA, Berkeley, Cornell.....)

I just started my senior year and here are my stats
Sex: male
Ethnicity: white
State I live in: California

SAT Reasoning test: 2070; 670 critical reading; 760 math; 640 writing skills (Only taken once so far, but plan on taking again soon)

ACT: haven't taken yet, but going to

SAT II Subject Tests: 750 Molecular Biology; 740 Math 2 (I don't plan on retaking, and I don't think any of my schools need 3 subject tests)

GPA weighted: 4.16
GPA unweighted: 4.0

Class Rank: 25 out of 517

Freshman Classes:
freshman english - A
Honors Geometry - A
German 1 - A
Biology - A
Visual Art - A
P.E. - A

Sophomore Classes:
Honors Precalculus - A
Sophomore english - A
German - A
Chemistry - A
World History - A
P.E. - A

Summer school classes:
Foundations of Ecology - A (its a prereq for taking AP Bio)
Public Health and Safety - A

Junior classes:
AP Composition - A
AP Calculus BC - A
German 3 - A
AP Biology - A
U.S. History - A
Geography - A

Senior classes:
British Literature
AP Statistics
AP German 4
AP Chemistry
AP Economics
Government

AP Tests: 5 Calc BC (5 for AB subscore also); 5 Biology; 4 Comp (yea, I've only taken 3 AP tests)

My main concern is that I have almost literally no extra curriculars. The only thing that may be somewhat legit is that I have done volunteer work a local public library for the past year and a half. I have participated in some random clubs, and have done no sports.

Major: I will either be applying as a mechanical engineering major or as undecided

My college list is this:
UCLA
UC Berkeley (First choice)
UC San Diego
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (my safety (I hope????))
University of Rochester
Cornell (My parents seem to think I'll get accepted to good schools, that is the only reason why I'm applying here. It seems like one of the few Ivies that isn't completely impossible)
Stanford (hahah shut up, I know you're laughing)

Thanks!!

UCLA and Cal - Slight reaches. It’s just tough to call with those scores. A little higher on the SAT(2150+) would increase your chances here exponentially.
UCSD - Hopefully a match. Far from a guarrantee the way there admissions have been lately, though.
SLO - Safety
Rochester - Not familiar enough to say, sorry.
Cornell - Reach
Stanford - Very high reach. I think we both know it’s impossible to get in at Stanford. Heh.

Chance me back if you have a minute. If not, that’s fine  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/778696-chance-senior-good-stats-ivies.html

Thanks man!!
I’ll definitely try to boost my SAT scores, and I’m glad that I at least have a shot at getting into UCLA and Berkeley. I really should just not apply to Stanford, and I may even take Cornell off.

You might as well if Berkeley is your first choice, as it is highly unlikely you will get into Cornell without getting into Berkeley and almost impossible you’ll get into Stanford without getting into Berkeley.

I’d say you have a great shot – Cal loves those 4.0s.

So does my lack of ECs not matter that much?
Also, will the fact that I may be a mech engineering major hurt me enough to kill my chances?
And finally, dkwunw said that I’ve got a great shot for berkeley, is that really true? It seems way too good to be true.

UCLA - reach
UC Berkeley - reach
The reason I’m saying these schools are reach for you is because you don’t have enough AP and honors classes during your sophomore and junior year. Also your SAT score is below average for these schools.
UC San Diego - maybe
UCSD would’ve been a match couple of years ago but they decreased the number of acceptance last year and probably more this year.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - safey, back-up, no question about it.
University of Rochester - good chance
Cornell - definite reach
But I’ve seen students in the past get in with ED with your scores.
Stanford - definite reach

You didn’t mention being an Engineering major before. Engineering is a completely different game at these schools, and it makes UCLA and Berkeley pretty big reaches without an increase in scores.

Also, I see that you haven’t taken that many AP classes compared to many of the students here, but have you taken the most rigorous course-load that your school offers?

Thanks for the replies
Thats more like what I was expecting people to say my chances were at those schools.

mrhh: My SAT scores aren’t below average for Cal or UCLA. The average SAT score for UCLA is 1930, and the average for Cal is 2000. It’s not too much better which is unfortunate, but still… Maybe you’re talking about for applicants applying for engineering, I dont know.

dkwunw: I did mention my planned major in my original question, and no I didn’t take the toughest courseload possible. During sophomore year I could have taken honors english and AP world history; during junior year I could have taken AP U.S. History, and for this year, I was able to take AP Literature and AP Govt.

Anyone else have opinions?

Sorry, I missed that!

The average SAT this year for both schools is around 2050, but for engineering I would imagine it being much higher. Not taking the toughest course-load also will obviously hurt.

For engineering they also usually like to see ECs that show interest in the major you’re heading into – so having no ECs there won’t be good.

I think the only thing you can do now is maybe try to get an internship or some experience in your major, take the toughest classes you can, and increase those scores.

Alright, thanks bro
I may just end up going to cal poly SLO; doesnt sound like I’ll get in any of the other schools haha
