I'm hoping they'll be good

Why are you asking high school students to chance you? They are candidates too and have no special insights (and many say a lot of nonsense, if I may say so). Frankly, the entire concept is idiotic. Apply and find out.

There are several very well informed parents on the Harvard forum who have insightful analyses of an applicant’s chances. Also, there are a handful of current Harvard students who are curious at what the future incoming freshman class is like. I find the advice of both groups to be very thoughtful. Seeing how the majority of chance threads here are for incoming seniors, there is actually a plethora of things an applicant can do to increase his/her chances from now till the application deadline January 1 2013, if not even further in the school year. To illustrate, 2 weeks before decisions were released this year, I sent an update to Harvard on some of my recent science and math awards that I had accrued in the second semester of my senior year. If I had been a borderline admitted or waitlist applicant, those updates would have tilted the decision in my favor.

OP, I understand that you are applying to several Ivies besides Harvard. On paper, your stats and extracurriculars indicate you are a good fit for the Harvard community intellectually and socially . However, admissions officers might wonder how Harvard appeals to you, and why you would choose Harvard over say, Yale and Brown. What do you plan to study, and why Harvard? You don’t have to answer us here on the forum–these are simply topics you should consider when writing essays or during the interview.
