I know I am not the only one here. My family applied for Green Card two years ago. Thanks to Bush's attempt to change the immigration system, my status is still "I-485 pending." Am I still counted as an international student? What's Caltech's definition for international student? Thanks in advance.

if you don't have green card you are international even if you applied for green card. A family friend of mine had to apply as international couple years ago cuz she JUST got her green card freshmen year of her college.

Where is your 485 stuck at? My family was like stuck at FBI name check(part of 485) for 2 years!!! (they basically didn't process it . period. being in efficient cuz they don't want us to have green card or something and couldn't have good reason to reject). There is this thing that people go through to basically petition before you sue ( but you don't actually sue of course >.< something like that) to get them actually look at your files. My mom went through the paper work stuff last year (i'll need it this year for college this year or i'll be in the super hard international pool), and we got green cards in 3 month after 2.5 years of waiting for the last step.
Try getting your parent to send emails to senetors first to ask about your green card status?

but with no green card, you are in international

i see. I think my dad called them a week ago to check our status. does this work ? Or do we need to call the senator? Thanks you sooooo much. I really don't want to apply as an international student.

You can try contacting with your representatives (unless you are from NY state), but don't count too much on them. My father is still waiting for his Green Card after almost 3 years of waiting. He tried to talk/write to the members of both Houses (over one and a half years ago), but..he is still waiting with many promises "to do everything I can"
But of course, try calling/writing/talking - it would really suck to apply as an international...

if he called? did he get a reply?
Email/writing is generally easier because there is something THERE for them to see and return. Phone don't always get returned?

(yeah representative, not senator >.<)
you can't do anything until you know your status and how long it's been in that status.
i totally know what you mean by not wanting to apply as a international student!!

thanks i will most definitely try that. but I heard that since this Feb, calling rep and suing the government no longer has an effect on ur status. Still, I will try. I will not accept this "international" status without a fight.

Good luck!
I guess I was lucky >.<

Good luck!
