Please don't defer me!

I submitted my application on the 31st of October. I hear that adcoms get tired after all the reading and for the last ones they are happy to just defer them. Is this true - and if so, OMG!

probably not

where would such a rumor start?

Anecdotal evidence

Admissions officer confirmed -- this is true.

lmao they will probably just throw your app out the window

haha, i highly doubt that. they might get slightly jaded towards the end, but they still will peruse your application.

i feel very insecure right now because i submitted on nov1!

I was kidding, by the way.

This idea is ridiculous.

most applicants apply during the last few days before if not on the deadline date. I highly doubt they'd just defer you. If you seem like a good candidate but have nothing completely rare and outstanding to offer, you would most likely get deferred.

I don't think they read them in order of submittance. I've heard (and noticed) that many adcoms are travelling pretty much all the way up until early decisions deadlines. It's not like they're sitting there reading them as they come in. Plus, it's all computerized (I'm guessing), so I doubt it would be fair to read them in order of arrival because it's an unfair benefit to those who are more organized or whatever. I feel like the computer probably shuffles everything up.

Although I am hoping they don't read mailed applications after all the online ones, especially since Yale's site has this awful diatribe about how they hate mailed applications.

There is some degree of reading in order of submission.

From Yale's Site:

Early Action FAQ
Important Note:
Though the Single Choice Early Action deadline is November 1, we strongly encourage you to submit all of your materials to us sooner. We expect a rise in early applications this year, so admissions officers will begin reading applications after mid-October. The earlier your application becomes complete—meaning you have submitted both the Common Application and Yale Supplement, and we have received the necessary school documents and your fee or fee waiver request—the sooner we can begin to evaluate it.

OMG! I never remembered reading that...woah, after all the times I looked at the Early FAQ...:(

Um, if you went regular decision (I'm sorry, I just can't commit now!) but had your materials in well before the EA deadline (Like, Oct 1 they sent me the email saying they were processing my application), will that do anything for the app?

It probably won't, but I'm just asking.

Collegehopefull - I personally have no idea. Sorry.

Princessbell - I had remembered seeing something that had caused D's attempted application date to be Oct 15. She tried but ended up on the 20th.

I'm hoping that my submission on the 15th gives a touch to my app. It'll be a subconscious tip if anything, but who's to say that these things don't exist.

Don't Worry!

I don't think this rumor makes any logic.

If admission officers get tired just after reading 3000 early decision apps, then where do they find the energy to process 30,000 in the regular round?

:P
