General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Can someone please tell me how well I'll do?

You have GREAT Volunteer hours, being an URM can only help (maybe a lot), and your GPA and class rank are ok...still in that 2% range, and your SATs are about a 1980. The SATs might be the only thing really holding you back.

Tough call, I'd say you have a 50:50 shot. :

And the fact the your income is 180k...

Income is $180,000? I don't think the URM status will help you much then. Maybe I'm wrong.

Last I heard, Princeton was need-blind though lol? I don't know though... but I thought they wouldn't see his income regardless?

They wouldn't consider his financial need as an admission criteria, but I believe they do see his income and generally, six-figure income hurts more than it helps.

Thanks guys, can we get anyone else? And thanks Calculus, I also read Princeton was need-blind so they never saw your parents' incomes.

Please more posts guys! Ignore the income for right now, please!

I don't know I hope superpig is wrong. I mean seriously, isn't Princeton known for being made up of the white upper-class lol? My parents make a six-figure income as well, so I hope that doesn't hurt my decision either!

Well maybe. I am not sure. Just remember reading it somewhere. There is big difference between kids whose parents have six-figure income and those who make less than $20k, like mine. So adcomes might look at that as a factor. But good luck guys! I hope you get in.

Ugh so do I, and same to you! I hope we all meet up soon :)

I'm curious about the money thing and this guy's chances. I have friends with similar (minus the URM).

More people plz :P

Lol, I guess I'm the only one :P

this may sound really stupid but...whats a URM?

URM is an under-represented minority, so basically people who are African-American, Hispanic, or Native American. While Asians are minorities in the United States they aren't considered URMs usually because they form such a competitive applicant pool within their ethnicity (or at least, that's what I would think).

I'm a little confused...so you applied ED, and you haven't gotten your decision but you are asking if we think you got in or not?

Under-represented minority (African American (and all other forms), Hispanic, Native American)

And j, yeah that's what he was saying on the AIM Chatroom yesterday.

oh there was an AIM chat?

URM = under-represented minority

Affirmative action is supposed to help people, but when many of the Hispanics/Blacks/Native Americans who get in are not living in poverty by any means (look at the OP's $180K), it's just stealing spots from Asians, as a Princeton study found. Really, all the top colleges care about is the color of people's skin so that they can say and show that they have a diverse community in their guidebooks. If anything, they should look at socioeconomic status - what's to prevent an Asian or Caucasian from being poorer than an African American?

Also, need-blind means that they will not reject you if you cannot pay the costs. Not the other way around.

No that's bs...so you have to pay be poor to get in? ROFL... if anything, they WANT people who can pay the bills lol. They aren't running a charity lol :P
