[Prompt was the famous quote from To A Mouse and etc.]

The modern world is filled with plans. Life revolves around making plans- the unprepared risk their success. Even so, they "go oft awry," whether by Deus Ex Machina or changes of heart.
In Of Mice and Men [underlined] by John Steinbeck, 2 migrant workers, Lenny & George, are trying to find a decent living in California (This is the Dust Bowl Era). They reach a place to work that seems to hold all the answers. An old man who has nothing but life savings offers to help them if they take him in. An affordable place opens up. All they need is a few months' pay & and [yes it's an error] they can go. Lenny, one of the two, doesn't know his own strength & accidentally kills a woman on the farm. George, his partner, euthanizes Lenny and gives up hope for their own farm. The plan had been perfect. They had money & a place, all they ever wanted. Their hopes were dashed by a freak accident.
Martin Luther, of Amazing Grace & the Reformation, never even wanted to be a priest. He was a slave trader into business, not spiritualism. His life, however, was bizarrely hanging by a thread. There were incidents, including falling off a horse, that kept coming, and he kept surviving. After one such incident, Martin Luther believed God was calling him to be a priest. As a result, he became the famous priest. his [error as on paper] materialistic life was turned upside down by what he felt was divine will.
As illustrated, the most solid plans are surprisingly delicate. Despite the chances of success, all it takes is a freak accident to flip the tables over.
