Please explain move-in? What do I do, exactly?

I feel like I paid attention at orientation, but I feel so lost about move-in. How does it work and what exactly do you do? Are parents supposed to be there? I know classes don't start for a few days, so what do you do during that time before classes start (mingling, yes, but for the entire day)?

Any help is much thanked.

You can go to the Housing site and see the instructions for move-in. Your housing assignement will determine which day you move-in.

Also a booklet called “Maize Blue You…welcome to Michigan guide 2012” was recently mailed. It outlines move-in and all the activities planned for following days after move-in.

There is a new student convocation being held on 8/30, parents are welcome to attend. But other than that I didnt see anything that parents need to do other than help move-in.

Hope this helps

Parents are definitely supposed to help you move in, but after you’re all settled, usually you have dinner that night and say good-bye. The date is online on a big calendar thing and depends on your dorm/hall. Before classes start you just get to meet people and have fun (I LOVED welcome week).

Step 1. Place belongings in dorm room.
Step 2. Start day/night drinking depending on when you arrive.
Step 3. Sleep when necessary.
Step 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until Tuesday.

Enjoy Welcome Week!

Ahh so I was supposed to get a booklet in the mail. I haven’t gotten that, so I might ask for another one. that should definitely clear a bunch of things up.

any other tips from folks? things you wished you knew before moving in? THANKS!!

We got the booklet at the end of last week. It’s about welcome week activities.

Relax. You will get a bunch of information about roommates and moving in your dorm and everything after August 1st!

I did not recieve a booklet either. I believe there are a few scheduled events during welcome week but most of the time between move in and class starting is unscheduled free time.

There were a couple of things each day that were optional, but not structured all day long events like at orientation.

Seems like if you go to these events, you will get t-shirts. And pizza. ;)
