I will be attending a graduation next year at MIT. I understand it is outside in Killian Court. I would like any tips people might have about trying to find a seat with the most chance of some shade, etc. Although, any advice whatsoever would be welcome, since I’m not getting any younger. Thanks in advance.
My nephew graduated from MIT a few years ago.
I was not in attendance, but I heard from my SIL that the ceremony was extremely long, like five hours.
My D attended four years ago to see her then-boyfriend graduate. It was chilly and pouring rain that year, so finding shade was not an issue. They did hand out clear plastic ponchos to all in attendance. Umbrellas were not permitted. She was there with her bf’s mother and grandmother. They sought shelter inside before the ceremony was over. I believe they graduate in order of the Schools. He was in the School of Science, so toward the end of the graduates.
I watched online from 1,500 miles away. I was able to get a good screen-shot of him graduating, which they were very thankful for, since they couldn’t see that well from their seats.
Yes, it was about 4 or 5 hours long.
My advice is…sit near the sides? (since there are trees on the W and E sides of Killian Court)
Ha-ha, get there early!! We, um, didn’t get there early last year, but it was a rather cool, rainy day, so it was fine to sit farther back. Wee also sat near a bathroom, which was good for our then 11 year old son. We parked at a friend’s house and walked from there (we were in a rental car, since we were in town for 11 days to see our son and daughter-in-law get married 8 days after they graduated), but I think a lot of people take shuttles and public transport to get close to campus. There are some viewing spots inside, as well, for older family members. It was long, but we didn’t stay for the whole thing. I think we were there maybe 2 1/2-3 hours. There are several big screens, but try not to be behind tree branches that might block your view of the screen if you’re sitting far away.
@college_query that was my graduation. also, the worst.
