please give your opinion on my chances

Hello I was wondering if anyone would give their opinion on my college chances. I am a soon to be college senior. My ACT score is 30 and my GPA is 3.6. As far as extracurricular activities I am a long time 4H and ffa member and I have received awards on the state level.

Part of why I believe my GPA is so low is that I have had to overcome a lot of adversity. I am the daughter of a currently incarcerated, mentally ill addict and I have a physical disability. Part of my dream is to be able to go to college and be successful person. I am in a situation where I will end up paying for most of my schooling so, out of state schools are currently not an option for me.

I want to apply to...

U of M
Wayne State
Western MI
GVSU
CMU
Ideally I want to be able to major in a science so I can go pre vet or pre med.
What are my chances? Are there any other schools you think I should consider?

Based on your GPA and score, you would be high match to low reach for UMich but match to low match for the rest (even safety for some). If you can work on the essay to explain the problems you’ve overcome and received a couple great recommendations, UMich could be a match for you too.
Why don’t you put MSU on the list?

Unless I get major accommodations I don’t think I would be able to physically manage getting to class at MSU because the university is so large.

Well. UMich is not small either. It is a quite a walking distance from the dorm to to diag.

But I have been there and there is great access to public transportation and they are incredibly accommodating.

Thanks so much though… I am very happy to hear your opinion.

CMU is probably a bit of a reach. I don’t know anything about UMich, but the rest seem pretty likely.

^ CMU is referring to Central Michigan University as she is considering only MI in state. That would be a safety for her.

All of the schools are safeties for you except for UMich. UMich is a tossup, but it depends on what high school you attend since a 3.6 is low for U of M. All of the schools besides U of M will also give you quite a bit of scholarship money including Grand Valley State University who would give you the Award for Excellence and Faculty Scholarship.

looks good

Thanks… I am pleased.
