Should heroes be defined as people who say what they think when we ourselves don’t have the courage to say it?
People who speak their mind, or speak against something for the greater good are important. They’re the kind of people who bring about revolutionary change and qualities like justice in a society.Examples from art and current effects prove that the heroes are people who speak out when the normal prior don’t have the courage to.
In George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm, the farm is run by a despotic pig named napoleon.Anyone who tried to defy him was immidietly executed by his royal dogs. But then one animal spoke up, Boxer the horse. Boxer gave an inspiring speech about equality and justice. He inspired the rest of the animals to take action. To fight against Napoleon and his dogs. Even though Boxer was later executed, the rebellion happened anyways. All the animals teamed up to fight Napoleon and his guardian dogs together. And after several injuries, the park was finally theirs. Even though Boxer wasn’t there, he was regarded as a hero and an inspirational figure. If it wasn’t for Boxer, the animals might not have had the courage to fight against napoleon.
Another great example is about the recent racial issues in the town of Furgerson, MO. During the years 2013 and 2014, racial bias was at an all time high. African Americans are denied rights like free education or health care.Anyone who tried to protest was banished from the town. However, one resident name Martin Cooper spoke up. He urged the African American community to protest, but indirectly and silently. He urged the African American to boycott the white Americans. He urged African Americans to leave their jobs in businesses of white people, to deny white customers to their businesses and services. As a result , the white community fell at a loss. Their sales of businesses started to go down. They were deprived of a lot of products sold by African Americans. As a result of this, the economy of ferguson started to go downhill. The town went bankrupt and ran out of resources. Finally the white community started to change their behavior. They started recognizing African Americans as equal members of society and started providing them with equal rights.
This proves that if it wasn’t for Martin Cooper, the African American might not have had the courage to do something like this.Because Martin spoke out when no one else could, he really is a hero, just like Boxer of Animal Farm.
