Knowledge is power. In agriculture, medicine, and industry, for example, knowledge has libersted us from hunger, disease, and tedious labor. Today, however, our knowledge has become so powerful that it is beyond our control. We know how to do many things, but we do not wmknow where, when, or even whether this know how should be used.

Can knowledge be a burden rather than a benefit?

Knowledge can be a heavy burden to bear. It does benefit us as individuals and as a group but knowing something another may not can be a heavy burden to bear. The great physicist Albert Einstein dealt with an abundance of knowledge- a portion of which he did not wish to know. Statictis are a burden most mature individuals must bear todat. Through knowledge we gain insight but at what cost.

During World War II, Albert Einstein urged Franklin D. Roosevelt- the president at the time- to begin nuclear research due to the fear the German Nazis had already begun so. Many great intellects worked on the infamous Manhattan Project, but at what cost. Once nuclear fission was successfully applied to being a force of mass destruction everything was changed. All of the scientists involved became burdened with the knowledge that they had created the most powerful weapon in the world- the atomic bomb. This knowledge no doubt gave them power but also guilt. For now a nuclear arms race was iminent and would result in the Cold War. And so, these scientists- Albert Einstein included- bore the burden of being the enlightened ones to perhaps save the entire world but to also be the reason behind its demise.

Statistics are everywhere today. In the food you eat, the car you drive, and the school you attend. Once told, these statistics loom around us as we go about our everyday lives. It seems that there is a now a statistic for everything- even statistics itself. But perhaps they aid ud in understanding or taint our very own judgement. Knowing we are a part of the statistic- the ones that do or do not- could become a burden or a benefit. But why do they seem to bring us down. Personally statistics are my foe and they make my own judgement take a turn for the worst. A majority of statistics are not evem accurate. Did that become a burden or a benefit for you? It became another burden to me.

Knowledge is plentiful and it surrounds us. But when shoukd there be a cap. When too much knowlrdge is enough. Perhaps that is why one should not ask too many questkons, because we may not be content with the answer we receive.
