First time writing an essay so will appreciate some feedback and constructive criticism along with a predicted score if possible :)

Went slightly over the time limit on this one although I feel with I can cut down once I become more familiar with the template as I had to keep referring to my notes on paragraph structure and whatnot as I wrote the essay

Essay Prompt: Can the daily actions of average people have a significant impact on the course of history?

Throughout the course of history, there have been several people whose actions have altered history forever even though their individual names and actions will never be recalled or remembered. Indeed several examples such as the protests in Egypt, the 2008 financial crisis and the fight for women’s rights in India clearly demonstrate that the daily actions of average people can have a significant political, economic and social impact on the course of history

The daily actions of average people can have a significant political impact on the course of history. No other example better personifies this statement than the protests by ordinary Egyptians to oust President Hosini Mubarak in 2011. Eventually, these Egyptians were successful in ousting President Mubarak and in the process, their actions captured the imagination of people across the Middle East triggering several similar protests in countries such as Morocco, Syria and Tunisia where ordinary citizens in these countries attempted to remove their own autocratic leaders. These protests were popularly termed the ‘Arab Spring’ and led to the toppling of several authoritarian governments and the birth of democracy in the Middle East. Hence, we can see how by staging such protests, the daily actions of average people had a significant political impact on the course of history as it led to widespread political changes across the Middle East.

Another example which shows that the daily actions of average people can have a significant economic impact on the course of history is the 2008 financial crisis where ordinary mortgage lenders made ‘high risk’ loans to borrows who had no means of paying them back which created a huge housing bubble which burst in 2008 leading to a severe downturn in the world economy which caused great historic companies such as Lehmann Brothers and Chrysler to go bankrupt or extinct as well as many people to lose their jobs. The crisis also prompted economic policy changes in the US such as the Frank-Dodd act which served to greater regulate the financial industry. Therefore, we can see from this example how the daily actions of ordinary people can have a important economic impact on the course of history.

The final example which signifies that the daily actions of average people can have a significant social impact on the course of history is the protests for woman’s rights by ordinary Indians in response to the horrific gang rape of a young student in Delhi in 2012. These protests not only led to the swift conviction of the six criminals who actively participated in this horrifying act, unprecedented in itself, but also the passing of several bills in the Indian Parliament which implemented harsher punishment for those who participated in crimes against women. Thus, this shows that the daily actions of average people can have a critical social impact on the course of history.

In conclusion, after careful analysis of the ‘Arab Spring’, the 2008 financial crisis and the protests in India, one can clearly see that the daily actions of average people can have a significant impact on the course of history
